Our client is a dynamic organization with a long history of serving the Bay Area community through innovative programs. We are seeking a Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager with expertise in audit preparation. The consultant will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of grant funding, ensuring compliance with government regulations, and overseeing the proper allocation of revenues, expenditures, and fixed assets.
This project reports directly to the CFO and is based in San Francisco.
Key Responsibilities:
- Proficiency in GL operations, month/year-end close, AP & AR, including reconciliation of the general ledger for all grant-related transactions
- Lead and manage the preparation of financial statement audits and the related schedules for grant-funded activities and compliance with GAAP
- Partner with external auditors during the audit process and provide all necessary documentation and explanations related to grant funds
- Monitor and ensure that all federal, state, and local grant regulations & entries align and are compliant with grant terms, guidelines, and reporting requirements
- Oversee the preparation, review, and reconciliation of grant-related financial statements and reports
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger for all grant-related transactions
- Reconcile the fixed asset ledger, ensuring accurate recording of asset acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation
- Ensure proper recording of grant revenues, expenses, and liabilities, ensuring accurate financial reporting
- Collaborate closely with program managers and other departments to ensure alignment between financial data and program operations
- Oversee the accurate maintenance of fixed asset records related to grant-funded projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
- Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets, particularly regarding government funding and revenue recognition processes
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders’ program managers to ensure correct allocation of grant funds and monitor grant expenses
- Provide training and guidance to staff on financial processes related to grants and reporting
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in of progressive GL nonprofit accounting, government grant management, and revenue recognition
- Strong background in tracking and management of the organization's fixed assets, acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation
- Experienced in Audit preparation, including expertise in provision of financial statement audits and the related schedules
- Excellent communication, with ability to communicate financial information clearly to internal and external stakeholders- verbal and written
- Meticulous attention to detail, works cross-functionally with teams and provide guidance on financial matters related to grants
