About the opportunity:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to join our growing team. As a Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial activities of the organization and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. This is a key role within our company, and we are looking for someone who has a strong understanding of GAAP and is proficient in QuickBooks accounting software.
Responsibilities:
General Ledger Management:
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Prepare and review journal entries to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Perform regular account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare and analyze financial statements for company leadership and the Board.
- Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts, and provide ongoing budget vs. actual analysis.
- Support the finance team with audits by providing documentation and explanations for accounts payable transactions.
Process Management:
- Develop, implement, and maintain accounts payable policies and procedures.
- Monitor and improve the efficiency of the accounts payable workflow.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial policies.
Oversee Accounts Payable Operations:
- Manage the full cycle of the accounts payable process from invoice receipt to payment.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices, expense reports, and payment requests.
- Verify and reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
Vendor Relations:
- Maintain positive relationships with vendors and respond to inquiries promptly.
- Negotiate payment terms and manage vendor disputes effectively.
- Conduct regular reviews of vendor accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Payroll Management:
- Manage the entire payroll process, including data collection, calculation, and disbursement of employee salaries.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and prepare payroll reports for management.
Team Leadership:
- Supervise and provide guidance to junior accounts staff.
- Train new employees on accounts payable procedures and systems.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounting role
- Experience overseeing and leading a team is preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards; experience with tax compliance and audit procedures.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
