We are seeking a Senior Staff Accountant with a strong background in cost accounting to join our dynamic accounting team at our client, a leading manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely cost accounting, financial reporting, and analysis, helping drive operational efficiency and financial success. Key Responsibilities:
Cost Accounting & Analysis: Oversee and manage the cost accounting process, including the calculation of standard costs, job order costing, inventory costing, and overhead allocation.
Cost Reporting: Prepare and analyze cost reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual cost statements. Monitor production costs and ensure they align with budgeted targets.
Variance Analysis: Perform detailed variance analysis, investigating discrepancies between actual and standard costs, and provide recommendations for corrective actions to management.
Inventory Management: Manage inventory costing, including materials, labor, and overhead. Ensure inventory is accurately valued in accordance with accounting standards and company policies.
Manufacturing Financial Support: Work closely with the operations and production teams to gather data, analyze manufacturing cost structures, and provide financial insights to help drive profitability and cost reduction strategies.
Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, focusing on production and manufacturing costs. Monitor performance against budget and provide variance explanations.
General Ledger Maintenance: Ensure accuracy of cost-related accounts in the general ledger, including reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end closing procedures.
Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies in the cost accounting processes. Assist in implementing cost-effective solutions and systems.
Internal Controls & Compliance: Maintain compliance with accounting principles and internal controls. Ensure adherence to corporate policies and regulatory requirements.
Cross-Department Collaboration: Partner with other departments (e.g., operations, procurement, and sales) to ensure proper costing methods and accurate reporting across the organization.
Financial Audits: Support the external audit process, providing necessary documentation and explanations related to cost accounting and inventory valuations.
Mentorship & Training: Provide guidance and training to junior accounting staff as needed, assisting with complex accounting issues and promoting knowledge sharing within the team.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years focused on cost accounting in a manufacturing environment.
Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, cost structures, job order costing, standard costing, and inventory management.
Experience with ERP systems and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis).
Familiarity with financial reporting standards, accounting principles, and regulations (GAAP).
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and efficiency.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
CPA or CMA designation is a plus, but not required.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit for extended periods of time and use office equipment such as computers, phones, and filing cabinets.
Occasional light lifting of office materials may be required.
