About the Job
The Senior Accountant performs general accounting functions for an assigned portfolio of properties. The position handles various aspects of accounting for the Organization. Maintains financial reports, records and general ledgers. Prepares and analyzes budgets and performs general bookkeeping. Responsible for all aspects of billing activities, accounts payable and accounts receivable. Direct responsibility for weekly payroll processing, maintaining general ledger accounts, preparing journal entries and posting to the General Ledger, and reconciliation of bank accounts.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Responsible for accurate and timely month-end closing, preparation and entry of monthly journal entries, bank reconciliation, and calculation of owner’s distributions and maintenance of cash sheets are being completed promptly and accurately.
- Responsible for reviewing all deposits for accuracy and completeness.
- Reconciles all checking, savings and investment accounts.
- Compiles mid-month and end of month management billing in order to invoice properties.
- Maintains balance sheet for utilization in the correct reporting of monthly financial and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
- Analyzes and monitors utility costs. Distributes reports to benchmark properties & evaluate overall performance.
- Maintain & oversee electronic Purchase Order Processing system.
- Maintain & oversee internal electronic invoice payment procedure.
- Direct supervision of two Account Payable Specialists
- Assist with training of new employees or new duties to financial staff.
- Responsible for payroll processing including submitting employee payroll online and recording into accounting & billing system.
- Oversees & Maintains Employee Personnel files (onboarding paperwork, employee reviews & compensation changes, etc).
- Responsible for Onboarding & Offboarding Employees.
- Responsible for management and oversight of employee benefits
- Responsible for draw disbursements to owners for quarterly tax payments & monthly draw.
- Compiles year-end financial reports for tax preparation. Provides accurate reconciliations and supporting documentation to external accounting firm.
- Responsible for creating accounting operations processes and systems that are consistent and reliable.
- Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures and recommending changes as necessary.
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in accounting. Minimum of one to three years experience in accounting and financial statement preparation. Prior experience in property management preferred.
Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Strong Microsoft Office, Excel and accounting software knowledge. Yardi Voyager property management software. Detail oriented with strong organizational skills. Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills. Ability to follow and apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Knowledge of cash forecasting, planning and management. Prior experience reading and comprehending financial statements. Self-motivated with ability to work independently.
Schedule:
Monday-Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm. Office setting in Downtown Lowell, MA.Parking provided by Employer
