Job Details
You will assist the Assistant Controller with the following:
Month-End Close & Financial Reporting:
- Assist with the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring all journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations are completed accurately and on time.
- Prepare consolidated financial statements with executive-level commentary to explain key financial results and variances.
- Manage intercompany eliminations, consolidations, and other closing activities.
Account Reconciliation & Analysis:
- Perform comprehensive balance sheet account reconciliations, including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), prepaids, payroll and - benefits, debt, PPE, intercompany transactions, and accruals.
- Analyze balance sheet accounts to identify discrepancies, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to resolve issues efficiently.
- Ensure key accounts (e.g., bank accounts, intercompany balances) are reconciled on a weekly basis to accelerate the month-end process.
Fixed Asset Management:
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and reconcile property, plant, and equipment (PPE) accounts monthly.
- Track and record asset acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation schedules, ensuring accurate financial reporting.
Journal Entries & Adjustments:
- Prepare, post, and manage recurring, adjusting, and month-end journal entries.
- Maintain general ledger accuracy by recording necessary adjustments and ensuring compliance with accounting policies.
Variance Analysis & Reporting:
- Review indirect costs, selling, general, and administrative (SG&A) accounts for unusual or excessive activity.
- Collaborate with internal teams to investigate and resolve financial statement variances, providing insights for business decisions.
Compliance & Tax Coordination:
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations by coordinating with Regional Controllers to manage business licenses, tax filings, and payments.
- Partner with external tax preparers to manage federal, state, and local tax payments, including franchise, sales and use tax, backup withholding, and property tax filings.
- Prepare and oversee tax-related reports and payments, ensuring timely submission for all jurisdictions.
Audit Support & Special Projects:
- Assist with external and internal audits, including preparation of audit schedules and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate with Regional and Corporate offices on IRS procedures and other accounting audits, as needed.
- Lead or contribute to special projects, ad-hoc reports, and process improvement initiatives.
ERP System Management:
- Troubleshoot and resolve transactional issues in the ERP system, ensuring data accuracy and timely financial processing.
Qualifications to be considered for the role:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- 3+ years of accounting experience
- Multi-location/multi-site accounting experience
- CPA or CPA track is preferred, but not required
- Job costing experience is preferred, but not required
- Percent of completion experience is preferred, but not required
- Sage 100 or Sage 300 software experience is preferred, but not required
- Public accounting experience is a plus, but not required
