Job DescriptionThe Accounting & Finance Department in the Business Services Division has an opening for a full-time a Senior Accountant II (General Accounting), reporting to the Controller in the Accounting department. The Senior Accountant II is responsible for a broad set of accounting operations and serving as a generalist to meet the most critical needs and to assist in implementation of continuous process improvement projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The person in this position is expected to communicate clearly and courteously; to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues. The job requires adherence to EDC policies & procedures.
The Senior Accountant II will:
- Prepare general and subledger reconciliations for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and all other general ledger accounts
- Implement and maintains journal entry logs for standard and nonstandard entries
- Prepare month-end and year-end closings for assigned areas
- Assist Accounts payable team to process vendor invoices
- Process invoicing according to established procedures
- Processes accounts receivable for significant funders according to established procedures
- Work with transaction processing staff to resolve problems and bottlenecks and manage peak workloads and to ensure adequate internal controls and compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements
- Work with the International accounting team to ensure that financial records are reported timely and accurately
- Assist monthly closing process and external financial audit
- Liaise with other accounting team members to accomplish specific tasks and to improve overall Accounting Department teamwork and efficiency
- Facilitate teamwork and feedback exchanges
- Troubleshoot problems, ensuring coordination, and develops corrective strategies
- Serve as backup during peak demands and staff shortages
- Perform other duties as necessary
Qualifications
This position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills. Specific requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree with concentration in accounting, finance, or business administration.
Other skills/Experience:
- 4–6 years substantial and progressive accounting experience, including experience with a variety of accounting systems, account reconciliations, and journal entry processing
- Advanced proficiency in related computer applications
- Strong analytical skills and aptitude for details and accuracy
- Ability to multitask and to respond to changing business needs
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with accounting services in a non-profit environment and exposure to government &/or project accounting highly desirable.

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $85,000 – $95,000. Salary offers are made based on market analysis and internal equity.
