Responsibilities
- Prepare and record various monthly account reconciliations and review reconciliations prepared by others. Analyze multiple general ledger accounts regularly and prepare recurring and other journal entries to support the monthly close.
- Lead and coordinate monthly reporting and accounting close duties for function. Support and review the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages for accounting managers, senior leaders, and other departments as necessary. Communicate monthly results to management and other business units. May be responsible for creating Board of Directors information packages for insertion into periodic Boards of Directors meetings presentations.
- Leads the close process to ensure that all involved personnel meet deadlines, that the functional close process is completed on time, and that the monthly close process is supported by preparing various journal entries, performing analytics, and assisting with journal review.
- Establishing and maintaining appropriate accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, GAAP, IFRS, FERC, and other applicable regulatory policies and standards. Proactively identify potential issues and develop remedial action to prevent the occurrence of deficiencies.
- Identify new processes and review existing ones to create more efficient workflows and ensure sufficient and compliant process controls. Leverage technology to automate processes and procedures surrounding financial reporting and analysis and assume ownership of special projects to develop and implement improvements in current processes and systems.
- Overseeing people management aspects of the function, including performance, recruitment, and employee development, while serving as a critical resource for the function for training and mentoring lighter accountants. Some supervisory responsibilities.
- Prepare and review monthly analyses for senior management and Board financial review packages, including budget-to-actual, prior-year variances, and other key performance indicators.
- Participate in special projects and support other accounting functions as needed.
- Act as primary contact for audit requests to ensure a timely response and prepare supporting schedules for audit activities as assigned. Interfacing with internal and external auditors at various times during the year.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets as needed.
- Assist with assimilating purchase acquisitions into company records.
- Bachelors degree in accounting or finance
- 4-5+ years of experience in an Accounting or Finance role in an energy company
- CPA eligible preferred
- Strong Excel skills
- Light managerial experience is a plus
