Senior Accountant - Creative Financial Staffing

CFS has partnered with a Grand Rapids area client who is looking to hire a Senior Accountant. The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing the day to day general ledger accounting required to maintain the organization’s general ledgers. Working under the direction of the Controller, the Senior Accountant is responsible for the monthly closing of various accounting records, financial reporting and assistance with annual audit and tax workpaper preparation.

Responsibilities:

• Updates, improves workpapers and supporting schedules for various entities and completes month-end closing entries.
• Completes quarterly updates of fixed asset and depreciation schedules in Sage Fixed Assets system.
• Prepares quarterly financial statements for various entities.
• Prepares quarterly loan covenants to external lenders.
• Analyzes monthly expense classification budget variances and documents significant variances for communication to management.
• Assists with providing quarterly dashboard reporting and board meeting schedules to board of directors.
• Assists with the coordination of audits by external accounting firms and with the preparation of necessary audit workpapers.
• Assists with the coordination of annual tax return preparation.
• Assists with the preparation and coordination of the annual budgets for various entities.
• Assists in design of more effective procedures and processes as necessary.
• Responds timely to financial inquiries from staff members and external partners.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
• 3 or more years of progressive work experience in an accounting role.
• Strong technology skills preferred. Advanced knowledge of MS Excel required (VBA macro coding preferred).
• Technical skills and experience in financial reporting.
