Job Summary:
Washington Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. The Senior Accountant will be instrumental in supporting payroll and supervising accounts payable functions. This role reports directly to the Accounting Manager of Accounts Payable and Payroll and will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of payroll processing, overseeing accounts payable operations, and contributing to the overall financial health of the hospital.
Key Responsibilities:
- Payroll Support and Oversight:
- Assist in the management and processing of payroll, ensuring accurate and timely payment of employee wages, benefits, and deductions.
- Review payroll data and reports for accuracy, making necessary corrections and adjustments.
- Address payroll discrepancies and inquiries from employees, providing resolutions in a timely manner.
- Work closely with the HR department to ensure all payroll-related data is current and compliant with relevant laws and regulations.
- Accounts Payable Supervision:
- Oversee the accounts payable function, including invoice processing, vendor payments, and expense reimbursements.
- Ensure timely and accurate payment of invoices, maintaining proper documentation and approvals in accordance with hospital policies.
- Monitor accounts payable aging reports and resolve any outstanding issues or discrepancies with vendors.
- Review and approve accounts payable transactions to ensure compliance with hospital procedures and financial controls.
- Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare and analyze financial reports related to payroll and accounts payable, identifying trends and variances.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts related to payroll and accounts payable, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Provide detailed reports and insights to the Accounting Manager on payroll and accounts payable activities.
- Compliance and Internal Controls:
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements related to payroll and accounts payable.
- Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and financial accuracy.
- Support audit processes by preparing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries regarding payroll and accounts payable.
- Team Collaboration and Training:
- Collaborate with the Finance team and other departments to support financial objectives and resolve accounting issues.
- Provide guidance and training to junior accountants and staff involved in payroll and accounts payable functions.
- Foster a positive team environment and assist in the professional development of team members.
- Special Projects and Process Improvement:
- Lead or participate in special projects aimed at improving payroll and accounts payable processes and systems.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial operations.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience with a strong focus on payroll and accounts payable. Previous supervisory experience is desirable.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics, ADP, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills.
- Strong knowledge of payroll and accounts payable processes, as well as regulatory requirements.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Other Requirements:
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Experience in healthcare accounting is a plus.
