Our client, a real-estate owner and developer based in NJ is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to join their team. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing the company's financial records, ensuring the accuracy of financial statements, and providing valuable financial insights to support business decisions. This role requires a strong understanding of real estate accounting practices, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met.
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger accounts.
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes.
- Oversee the accounts payable and receivable functions.
- Review and approve invoices, expense reports, and payment disbursements.
- Ensure timely collection of receivables and resolve any discrepancies.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Prepare and review tax filings, including property tax returns and sales tax reports.
- Liaise with external tax advisors and auditors as necessary.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in accounting procedures.
- Prepare audit schedules and provide support to external auditors.
- Work closely with property managers, asset managers, and other departments to ensure accurate financial information.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years’ of accounting experience, preferably in the real estate industry.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and real estate accounting practices.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
