Senior Accountant (Onsite, Denver)
Overview: Our client, a family-owned, privately held retail company, is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join their team. This is a full-time, onsite role in Denver, CO. The company offers a collaborative, team-oriented, and casual environment. This role is ideal for someone who is independent, capable, and ready to roll up their sleeves.
Key Senior Accountant Responsibilities:
Month-End Close Support (50%)
- Prepare journal entries (e.g., payroll accruals, benefits, PTO, workers' compensation)
- Reconcile accounts (e.g., AR, operating and bank accounts)
- Handle retail store, inventory, and corporate entries
- Support fixed asset disposals and depreciation entries
- Contribute to the close process, including deferred warranty revenue and lease accounting
Review & Analysis (25%)
- Generate and analyze financial statements
- Book bad debt accruals and manage corporate profit share accruals
- Conduct KPI reviews and assist with cost management
- Prepare senior management reporting
Ad Hoc Accounting Projects (25%)
- Sales & use tax returns
- Allocations (e.g., JE, ss allocations)
- Key indicator and senior management reporting
- Assist with other accounting tasks as needed
Minimum Senior Accountant Qualifications:
- Experience: 5+ years of progressive, full-cycle accounting experience
- Industry Knowledge: Retail and/or inventory accounting experience is a must
- Technical Skills:
- Strong proficiency in MS Excel (working with downloads, imports into subledger, etc.)
- Experience with manual accounting processes
- Mindset:
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Desire to improve processes and contribute meaningfully
- Communication: Professional communication skills, both written and verbal
Preferred Senior Accountant Skills:
- Experience with NetSuite and Paylocity (a big plus)
- Familiarity with sales and use tax filings
- Knowledge of fixed asset and lease accounting
- Ability to understand and execute allocations
Senior Accountant Work Schedule & Other Information:
- Onsite, Denver-based position (local candidates only)
- Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with reasonable flexibility; overtime expected
- Projected timeline includes key month-end and year-end close milestones including switching from fiscal to calendar year-end
- Conversion to NetSuite
