SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Senior Accountant is responsible for the cost accounting and general accounting functions. This position has direct daily involvement with their division manager and occasional involvement with other senior management. The person in this role has an opportunity for advancement within the company if appropriate skills and abilities are exhibited.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following. The company reserves the right to add to, delete, change or modify the essential duties and responsibilities at any time.
- Assist CFO in planning and fulfilling agency requirements. Reconciliation of all agency accounts (checking, payroll, money market). Maintain all contract files, journals and ledgers. Perform and monitor a variety of accounting activities
- Evaluating, developing, and improving department controls, systems, and procedures, increasing accuracy and efficiency.
- Maintain the general ledger, including preparation of journal entries, accounting analysis and reconciliation, and the monthly closing of the books.
- Analyzing financial data and creating reports for management, stakeholders, and external parties, such as vendors and lenders.
- Assist in physical audits and reconciliation of all inventories.
- Assisting other departments as they develop strategies, establish objectives, and make decisions that could have a financial impact on the business.
- Prepare and review income/expenses to assist in the annual planning cycle.
- Provide functional backup on accounts payable/accounts receivable.
- Keeping informed on the latest developments in the finance industry.
- Ensuring that all accounting processes align with GAAP and current financial legislation.
- Perform other duties as directed by the CFO.
- Document and report all income and expenses related to the programs. Oversee accounts payable, the computerized accounting system, and month-end closing.
- Process Bi-Weekly Payroll and Payroll related benefits and enter the appropriate journal entries into the accounting system
- Participate in ongoing quality improvement efforts of the agency.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse communities and constituencies.
- The Agency may assign other functions to the job at its discretion.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.); and five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Accounting experience is required. Previous non for-profit experience required.
