Salary Range: $65,000-$75,000 + variable compensation based on sales
Key Responsibilities:
- Prospect New Business and Drive Sales Growth: Proactively identify, develop, and capitalize on new business opportunities within assigned territories to drive significant revenue and sales growth. Leverage industry connections, market analysis, and deep understanding of customer needs to execute targeted sales strategies and build strong relationships with key decision-makers. By establishing the company as a trusted partner and continuously expanding the sales pipeline through networking and participating in industry events and tradeshows, you will enhance market presence, improve profitability, and consistently meet or exceed sales targets with a proactive and customer-centric approach.
- Account Management: Build, maintain, and expand high-value relationships with existing customers by leveraging a deep understanding of customer needs, industry trends, and market conditions. Utilize these insights to drive sales growth through personalized upselling and cross-selling strategies, while also enhancing customer satisfaction through tailored solutions and exceptional service.
- Logistics of Order Management: Work closely with the warehouse team to facilitate smooth order execution, efficient inventory management, and effective logistics planning, while also engaging in warehouse tasks to support operations. Identify opportunities to lower costs, improve delivery times, and enhance the overall customer experience, thereby contributing to sales growth and revenue expansion.
- Internal Partnerships: Foster effective collaboration and communication with internal operational teams to ensure seamless execution of order management, drive cross-functional efficiency, and facilitate smooth workflow. Develop and maintain strong relationships with key internal stakeholders to promote a culture of teamwork, enhance communication, and drive business success.
- Product & Industry Knowledge: Cultivate and sustain comprehensive knowledge of the nursery industry, including plant materials, market trends, and emerging opportunities. Utilize this expertise to deliver actionable insights to customers, effectively differentiate the company from competitors, and strategically position the business for long-term growth and success. Continuously monitor industry developments and shifts, identifying opportunities to stay ahead of the competition and drive overall business growth.
Essential Job Duties:
- Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities within assigned territories, by visiting customers and prospects, making cold calls, and engaging in other outreach activities
- Conduct thorough market analysis to understand customer needs and industry trends
- Develop and execute targeted sales strategies to convert leads into customers
- Participate in industry events and tradeshows and networking opportunities to expand the sales pipeline and enhance market presence
- Visit customers, and other growing facilities to develop relationships and gain knowledge
- Stay up-to-date on industry developments and trends, identifying opportunities to stay ahead of the competition and drive business growth
- Continuously monitor industry developments and identify trends to maintain a competitive edge and drive business growth
- Collaborate with the warehouse team to ensure efficient order execution and effective inventory management
- Regularly review inventory reports to identify excess stock, which can trigger timely promotional offers or discounts to facilitate quicker turnover
- Engage in warehouse tasks as needed to support operations and streamline logistics planning
- Develop strong relationships with key internal stakeholders to promote teamwork and enhance workflow efficiency, such as operations and marketing teams
- Manage open orders reports and modify the orders and ship dates based upon customer needs
- Maintain a high level of customer service through phone calls, electronic communication, and customer visits. Document in Salesforce
- Ensure all customer transactions are documented in QuickBooks and Salesforce. Utilize CRM Salesforce software to track order changes and ensure timely communication with customers regarding their orders
- Ensure active customers have orders booked on time and those orders are consistently reviewed and adjusted based upon the client and the company’s best interests

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Sales Hunter Expertise:
- Strong understanding of sales principles, techniques, and strategies to effectively identify and close new business opportunities.
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets through proactive lead generation, relationship building, and strategic account management.
Market and Product Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of the nursery industry, including plant materials, market trends, and emerging growth opportunities.
Analytical Skills:
- Proficient in conducting market analysis and interpreting data to inform sales strategies and make evidence-based decisions.
- An ability to analyze inventory levels and sales trends to identify opportunities for promotions and discounts that enhance sales performance.
Relationship Management:
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to build, maintain, and expand relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
Order Management and Logistics:
- Understanding of logistical processes related to order management, inventory flow, and fulfillment to ensure seamless operations and customer satisfaction.
Adaptability and Continuous Learning:
- Ability to adapt to changing market conditions and industry developments, proactively seeking opportunities for professional growth and skill enhancement.
Technological Proficiency:
- Proficiency and eagerness to learn in CRM software (e.g., Salesforce) for managing customer interactions and tracking sales performance
Networking and Event Participation:
- Enthusiasm for participating in industry events, trade shows, and networking opportunities to expand professional connections and drive business growth
Minimum Qualifications:
- Required: 3+ years of sales experience and proven track record of meeting and exceeding sales targets
- Preferred: 3+ years of sales experience in the nursery industry or a related field
- Required: High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree or higher preferred
- Preferred: Nursery sales experience and related experience
