Security System Controls Mechanic (Facilities Maintenance Mechanic) - Pierce County, WA

In this position, you'll be working at Pierce County facilities supporting the security and safety of more than 3,500 employees and the public who visit our buildings. As a security systems technician, you will directly support physical access controls, video surveillance and intrusion detection systems and video management systems. You will perform regular maintenance, system checks, installations, troubleshooting and repairs as part of a maintenance and security team.

You will need to provide great customer service for our tenants and prioritize work orders while building your knowledge in facilities trades. Have a positive and enthusiastic work presence. You will have journey level experience working on installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of physical access systems and components, intrusion systems such as Bosch, video surveillance systems.
 
Your Future in this Role:  
The facilities maintenance mechanic is the journey level trades position within our buildings trades. The role of this employee goes beyond the day-to-day work order tasking and projects. As the mechanic, you set the example and the standards for the work accomplished for the other mechanics and the lower skilled maintenance technicians and workers. You will be the key person in helping others develop their skills in the trades. This position has in the past been a source of personnel who have advanced to the Maintenance and Operations supervisor 1 and 2 positions.

Training in this Role:
You will attend Lenel Physical Access Control System training and certification as well as any required training necessary to maintain licenses such as electrical journey level EL-06. First aid and CPR, safety training. Training in security systems as needed to keep current within the field or to gain knowledge in skills in support of installed systems.

This position works 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday day shift with occasional evening and weekend work.

Core Daily Responsibilities:

• Operates and maintains building security systems. Installs wiring associated with security systems. Will also assist technicians working on building control systems including lighting, and fire. Troubleshoots digital and non-digital circuits and associated programming and wiring. Reads and interprets electrical schematics, CAD drawings, line drawings associated with digital control systems, line and low voltage wiring systems. Maintains mechanical hardware for security systems including gate and door mechanisms. 
• Performs advanced level electrical work, such as: installation of new data runs, cable terminations, fiber optic cable installations and terminations, intrusion system panel installations and set up and works from blueprints, schematic drawings or sketches, installs new conduit and wiring from power source to panel box, install, repair or replace electrical switches, outlets, and interior or exterior wiring. Performs repair, maintenance, and troubleshoots various control systems including doors and gates, fixtures, switches, and may assist work on other electrical equipment and systems.
• Review work orders and projects prioritizing, planning and coordinating work as needed. 
• Lead project work and is responsible for determining solutions, means and methods of repair, determining needed parts, materials, supplies and ordering same. 
• Work with Facilities Management construction project managers and contractors in planning, scoping work, supporting and/or performing work to drawings and specifications. 
• Act as Subject Matter Expert for security, intrusion systems and video surveillance systems. Obtain quotes from vendors and process through supervisor for contracting of work.

What We Do
The Maintenance and Operations Division:

• Manage preventative maintenance programs for major equipment and building components of facilities.
• Perform renovations and equipment replacements which result in increased safety, security, efficiency and improved productivity for our tenants.
• Provide assistance and consulting services to building tenants for electrical, plumbing, carpentry, remodeling and other tasks.
• Ensure buildings meet safety, fire and disability code requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Three or more years of journey-level work experience in performing installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of building physical access control systems, Intrusion systems and video surveillance systems. 
• EL-06 electrician license required.
• Experience with basic diagnostic equipment, including multi-meters. 
• Additional training or experience may substitute for the recruitment requirements
• Employees may be subject to 24-hour on-call availability.
• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Washington State Driver’s license.
• Satisfactory physical condition is required as indicated by a County-approved physical examination.

SPECIAL NOTE: Certain positions in this class may be required to possess or have the ability to obtain licenses required by state, local, or federal code or regulations including but not limited to ELO1 electricians license, Class III boiler operator's license and state asbestos worker or supervisor certification. Ability to successfully complete all required background investigations including fingerprinting.
