The Security Officer is responsible for the general security of students, employees, and Center property. This position patrols grounds and buildings, serves as a deterrent to criminal activity, reports safety hazards and security deficiencies, and makes reports regarding suspicious activity. The Security Officer will also provide customer service to the public by giving directions and information to visitors.

Essential Functions:
- Provide all guests a positive experience from arrival to departure.
- Assist and direct all visitors to their destinations.
- Serve as a source of information pertaining to the Center and its activities.
- Respond to all visitors' concerns/complaints in a prompt, courteous, and professional manner.
- Accurately check all staff/guest bags prior to entry, as directed.
- Patrol premises, the exterior and interior of the buildings, to ensure the integrity of all access points; identify any unsightly occurrences; and respond to issues as needed.
- Accurately and thoroughly complete incident reports.
- Enforce building policies and procedures, as applicable.
- Respond to all emergencies promptly.
- Work cooperatively with all staff members, law enforcement officers, and fire/rescue personnel.
- Report to assigned posts (or reception desks) as needed to monitor crowds and/or entrances during events.
- Lock/unlock doors as necessary.
- Bag meters for bus, truck, and other production vehicle parking.
- Control and monitor parking on Center premises and adjacent streets.
- Assist with the arrival and departure of visitors arriving by bus.
- Monitor video cameras.
- Electronically control employee and non-employee building access.
- Verify credentials and issue permanent and/or temporary badges.
- Prepare post log, daily guard reports, and other logs/reports as assigned.
- Maintain a clean and neat appearance during working hours.
- Undertake any other duties as directed by the applicable supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Willingness and ability to work a flex schedule of various hours and multiple shifts, to include evenings, weekends, and holiday shifts, as needed.
- Ability to interact in a sensitive, courteous, and understanding way with members of a diverse community, including students, faculty, staff, and the public.
- Ability to make sound decisions, based on good judgment, on a frequent basis.
- Ability to clearly document activity, both verbally and in writing.
- Proficient in the safe operation of a golf cart.
- Proficient in the use of hand-held radio and "10 codes".
- The individual must be computer literate in Microsoft Office suite and be able to retain training on security badging software and access control software.
- Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
Education and Work Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience in a related field.
- Prior military or law enforcement experience preferred.
Certifications / Licenses:
- Must have a valid Florida Driver's license.
- CPR/Basic First Aid Certification
- State Issued Class "D" Private Security Officer License required (or must be obtained within 90 days of hire) and must be maintained/renewed prior to expiration.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to move or be in a stationary position for extended periods of time (up to 10 hours per day), use a computer and telephone based on specific needs of the day, and respond quickly to emergencies.
- Ability to move up to 10 pounds, frequently move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally move up to 40 pounds.
- The employee must be able to remain awake and alert for the duration of the assigned shift.
- The employee is occasionally required to ascend/descend, reach, and traverse the Center during an assigned shift.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The individual must be able exchange information with co-workers, in person, on the phone, and via radio.
- The nature of this job requires the employee to work on-site as a regular work routine.
