Title: Network Security Engineer
Location: Hybrid within the Northeastern Region
Description:
The Network Security Engineer is a key member of the security team, focusing on the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of security solutions to protect the organization’s infrastructure. This role involves close collaboration with IT teams to design and implement secure internal and cloud-based systems, manage security tools, and respond to incidents. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of network security principles, scripting skills, and a proactive approach to staying updated on security trends.
Responsibilities:
Install, configure, and test security tools to align with the organization’s security architecture.
Manage and maintain firewall appliances and rule bases to ensure network security while minimizing operational disruption.
Design and implement secure solutions for internal and cloud-based environments, collaborating with IT teams.
Oversee internal and cloud security monitoring systems, including intrusion detection and alerting.
Conduct detailed analyses to resolve complex network security issues.
Participate in incident response by investigating security events, identifying root causes, and implementing remediation measures.
Automate security processes using scripting tools like Python, Ansible, and Bash to improve efficiency and reduce errors.
Maintain project and network design documentation.
Manage B2B connections and administer web proxy systems for URL and content filtering.
Support and maintain authentication mechanisms for users and business partners.
Manage certificates using the latest encryption algorithms.
Required Skills:
Strong knowledge of network security fundamentals, including protocols like TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, and IPsec.
Expertise in cloud security design principles and threat modeling for IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS environments.
Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting VPNs, IDPs, and proxies in complex environments.
Experience with vulnerability scanning tools, SIEM platforms, and penetration testing methodologies.
Advanced scripting skills in Python, Ansible, and/or Bash for task automation.
Familiarity with operating systems, including Windows Servers, Linux, and desktop environments.
Desired Skills:
Knowledge of encryption standards and common attack vectors.
Strong communication and documentation skills.
Industry-recognized certifications (CISSP, CCSP, or vendor-specific).
Experience:
3+ years of experience in a security engineering or network security role.
Proven ability to configure and troubleshoot firewalls and security systems in enterprise environments.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
