PLEASE NOTE: This is a seasonal position for the month of January 2025. Opportunities to begin work as early as November 2024 may be available based on need and candidate availability. Individuals in this role will be required to work every day January 5th-January 26th, up to 12 hours per day. Additional work may be available the week following Stock Show, January 27th-January 31st.
Day- and night-shift opportunities available.
Overview
As a seasonal Maintenance Technician, you’ll work closely with our Building Repair and Event Operations teams to support the upkeep and functionality of our event facilities. Responsibilities include performing basic repairs and facility upgrades, from painting and structural fixes to mechanical repairs and heavy equipment operation. This hands-on role requires technical skills, adaptability and a strong commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for guests.
The ideal candidate is a skilled and dependable maintenance technician with a solid understanding of basic repairs, a knack for operating equipment, and a commitment to safety. You’re a team player who can adapt to shifting needs, enjoys problem-solving, and takes pride in maintaining a high standard of facility upkeep.
Reports to: Building Supervisor
Duties & Responsibilities
- Complete basic repairs, including structural, mechanical, and aesthetic updates such as painting, carpentry, and fixture installation.
- Operate heavy equipment (i.e., forklifts, skid steers) to assist with facility needs and event setup or teardown.
- Collaborate with Building Repair and Event Operations teams to prioritize and complete maintenance requests in a timely manner.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance needs and proactively address potential issues.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to all company policies and safety regulations.

Desired Experience, Skills, & Abilities
- Experience with basic repairs, painting, and mechanical work is required; knowledge of structural maintenance is preferred.
- Familiarity with operating heavy equipment such as forklifts and skid steers.
- Candidates must be available for early mornings, late nights, and weekends throughout the 16 days of Stock Show (January 11th-January 26th), with shifts up to 12 hours per day.
- Comfortable with physical labor, including lifting (up to 50 pounds), bending, standing, and working in various weather conditions.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test. Active driver’s license and clean motor vehicle record (MVR) strongly preferred.
- Fluent in English with strong communication abilities to coordinate with team members; bilingual skills are a plus.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with a proactive commitment to maintaining a safe, clean environment.
Working Conditions
National Western Complex is a multi-purpose indoor and outdoor commercial and agricultural complex where dusty conditions and animals may exist. While performing the duties of this job, work is performed both indoors and outside in all weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, wind, and rain, on varied surfaces. Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-energy environment with large crowds.
Compensation & Benefits
- This is a seasonal, hourly position with a pay rate of $20.50/hour.
- Paid sick time offered at the rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.
- Shift differentials offered – earn more for working nights!
