PLEASE NOTE: This is a seasonal position for the month of January 2025. Opportunities to begin work as early as November 2024 may be available based on need and candidate availability. Individuals in this role will be required to work every day January 5th-January 26th, up to 12 hours per day. Additional work may be available the week following Stock Show, January 27th-January 31st.
Day- and night-shift opportunities available.
Overview As an Equipment Operator, you will play a vital role in supporting our event operations by operating a range of machinery, including forklifts, skid steers, tractors, loaders, and dump trucks. This role involves assisting with event setup and breakdown, unloading deliveries, transporting shavings and manure waste, and clearing snow as needed. You’ll be responsible for ensuring safe equipment operation and adhering to all NWSS policies and OSHA regulations.
The ideal candidate is a skilled, safety-conscious equipment operator with experience handling various types of machinery. Comfortable working in outdoor, livestock-centered environments, you demonstrate a strong commitment to efficiency and safety. Reliable, adaptable, and organized, you’re ready to take on tasks that support the smooth operation of our event.
Reports to: Outside Grounds Supervisor
Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate forklifts, skid steers, tractors, loaders, and dump trucks to complete tasks associated with event operations.
- Assist with show move-in and move-out processes, ensuring efficient and timely setup and breakdown.
- Unload deliveries, transport shavings and manure waster, and clear snow as needed, maintaining safe and organized work areas.
- Conduct routine checks on equipment to ensure safety, report any maintenance needs, and follow all company policies and OSHA safety regulations.
- Work primarily outdoors and around livestock, adapting to various weather conditions and event demands.
- Perform lifting, bending, standing, and walking as needed throughout the workday to accomplish tasks.

Desired Experience, Skills, & Abilities
- Experience operating forklifts, skid steers, tractors, loaders, and/or dump trucks is required.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and experience in maintaining safe operation of equipment.
- Candidates must be available for early mornings, late nights, and weekends throughout the 16 days of Stock Show (January 11th-January 26th), with shifts up to 12 hours per day.
- Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, standing and walking for extended periods, and able to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Valid driver’s license and clean motor vehicle record (MVR) is required; commercial driver’s license (CDL) preferred. Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Fluent in English with strong communication abilities to coordinate with team members and follow instructions.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with a proactive commitment to maintaining a safe, clean environment.
Working Conditions
The National Western Complex is a multi-purpose indoor and outdoor commercial and agricultural complex where dusty conditions and animals may exist. While performing the duties of this job, work is performed primarily outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, wind, and rain, on varied surfaces. Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-energy environment with large crowds.
Compensation & Benefits
- This is a seasonal, hourly position with a pay rate of $20.50/hour for non-CDL positions and $21.50/hour for CDL positions.
- Paid sick time offered at the rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.
- Shift differentials offered – earn more for working nights!
- Opportunities to transition to regular full-time positions may be available after the Stock Show.
