Scientist, Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology - VersaPeutics, Inc

             VersaPeutics, Inc. is a biotechnology startup based in San Diego California devoted to discovering novel targets for the development of first-in-class, life-changing treatments for nervous system disorders. 

We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist with a background in cellular and molecular neurobiology to join our R&D team full-time with an employee benefits package, the compensation will be adjusted based on experience. Your responsibilities will include the development of in vitro and cell-based assays to identify and characterize small molecules for our drug discovery pipeline; conducting IND-enabling experiments such as PK/PD, with a focus on stability, efficacy and toxicity studies. The ideal candidate will be adept at working on a multi-disciplinary team with a flexible work style and contributing to a diverse range of projects and disease areas, under the guidance of senior scientific staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct in vitro and cell based experiments toward technical goals and prioritize delivering results within agreed timelines.
• Perform studies in rodents to evaluate testing article’s in regards to in vivo PK/PD, distribution, toxicity, and efficacy. 
• Provide support to other members of the team, including buffer preparation, re-stocking lab supplies, checking the inventory of supplies.
• Routine lab maintenance

Qualifications

• MS in biology/biochemistry or related discipline with 3 + years of laboratory research experience in an academic or industry setting
• PhD in relevant discipline as noted above with 0-1 year experience
• Proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment on multiple concurrent projects
• Good organizational skills
• Excellent communication skills (both oral and written), analytical skills, and problem-solving skills, are necessary

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

• Hands on experience with cellular assays such as mammalian tissue culture, plasmid transfection, western blots, and immunostaining.
• Hands on experience with molecular biology experiments such as bacterial culture, subcloning, plasmid purification, and PCR.
• Prior hands on experience with rodent experiments preferred, such as but not limited to genotyping, injections, anesthetization, surgeries, behavioral tests, euthanasia, tissue collection, immunostaining and anatomical tracing.
• Experience with ELISA or other high throughput assays are preferred but not necessary.
• Experience with assay development or drug discovery is preferred but not necessary.
