Scientist III/IV Biophysical Developability - Boehringer Ingelheim
Ridgefield, CT
About the Job
Description
Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Scientist III/IV to join our Biotherapeutics Discovery department located at our Ridgefield, CT facility. This role presents an exciting opportunity to contribute to the discovery of biotherapeutics aimed at addressing unmet medical needs. As a key member of the New Biologic Expression, Purification, and Characterization (NBEPC) group, specifically within the Characterization team, you will be responsible for designing, executing, and analyzing biophysical developability assessments that evaluate the intrinsic properties and physicochemical stability of antibodies and complex biotherapeutics.
Your expertise in biophysical characterization techniques—such as liquid chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, light scattering, calorimetry, and structural biology—will be essential. A solid understanding of the physical chemistry and thermodynamic principles that govern protein structure, interactions, and stability is highly desirable. You will play a pivotal role in fostering a culture of excellence through successful project outcomes, advancing scientific knowledge, empowering team members, and enhancing our connections with the broader scientific community through conferences, publications, and collaborations.
As an employee of Boehringer Ingelheim, you will actively contribute to the discovery, development, and delivery of our products to our patients and customers. Our global presence provides opportunities for all employees to collaborate internationally, offering visibility and opportunity to directly contribute to the company's success. We realize that our strength and competitive advantage lie with our people. We support our employees in a number of ways to foster a healthy working environment, meaningful work, diversity and inclusion, mobility, networking and work-life balance. Our competitive compensation and benefit programs reflect Boehringer Ingelheim's high regard for our employees.
Candidate will be hired at level commensurate with experience and education*
Duties & Responsibilities
• Lab-Based Focus: Spend at least 70% of your time designing, performing, and optimizing biophysical developability assessments.
• Biophysical Developability Assessments: Conduct stage-appropriate developability assessments, including screening for protein attributes, stability, and forced degradation; interpret and present findings to project teams.
• Method Development: Innovate analytical methodologies and evaluate new technologies to enhance the overall developability strategy.
• Evaluation of Complex Biotherapeutics: Stay current with advanced biophysical developability techniques for evaluating complex biotherapeutics (e.g., multi-specific antibodies, Fc-fusions, recombinant proteins).
• Molecular Interactions: Apply biophysical techniques to investigate molecular interactions underpinning biological and therapeutic mechanisms of action.
• Project Team Participation: Act as a group representative on multiple project teams, contributing expertise to define program goals and provide in-depth CMC insights.
• Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process enhancements and foster a collaborative environment; propose and implement new experimental designs tailored to research objectives.
• Culture of Excellence: Promote continual process improvement, scientific curiosity, and empowerment; contribute to broader research goals through conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all work is conducted safely and in compliance with applicable regulations; maintain accurate records in accordance with SOPs and policies.
