Position Overview

The Scientific Applications Specialist provides technical field support for existing and new products of VisualSonics and its ultra high frequency ultrasound and photoacoustic technology. The Applications Specialist role is to be a subject matter expert in preclinical ultrasound and photoacoustic imaging. They will demonstrate the value of VisualSonics products through successful sales demonstrations, customer education and training.

**This is a US based travel position; however, some international travel may be required**

Successful candidates will be currently located in the US near any major airport.

Job Description

Essential Job Functions:

Pre-Sales Demonstrations

• Provide pre-sales demonstrations of high-resolution ultrasound and photoacoustic equipment, highlighting research-specific applications for prospective customers.
• Travel to and participate in trade shows, conferences, and workshops as a subject matter expert on high-resolution ultrasound and photoacoustic imaging techniques and applications, showcasing the value and functionality of VisualSonics products.

Customer Success

• Conduct comprehensive training sessions for customers on the use of newly acquired equipment, both at our Toronto-based training facility and at customer locations (travel involved). Focus on imparting sonographic expertise to users who are new to preclinical ultrasound as an imaging modality.
• Offer pre-installation and post-installation application support for high-resolution ultrasound and photoacoustic equipment, ensuring smooth setup and effective use of the technology in research applications.
• Address and resolve customer satisfaction issues as assigned, responding to suggestions for improvements and enhancements to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.

Presentations

• Deliver specialized and general presentations about products, applications, and new developments at customer sites, conferences, workshops, and virtually. Ensure clear communication of complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.

Product Enhancement / Development Responsibilities

• Collect and provide user feedback for product development initiatives, enhancing future products and contributing to the development of new application-based functionalities.
• Assist in evaluating new products where applicable and collaborate with the Product Management team to incorporate practical insights and improvements.

Application-related Protocols/Procedures

• Develop comprehensive procedure manuals, training protocols, and scientific documents pertaining to all VisualSonics products, ensuring users have clear and accessible resources.

Application and Science Development

• Establish and maintain strong partnerships with research labs, developing new protocols and completing new experiments to advance the application of VisualSonics' technology.
• Commit to developing extensive knowledge of VisualSonics products and their applications, staying current with advancements in the field and providing knowledgeable support to customers.

Travel

• Travel approximately 65% - 75% of working time as required, including some weekends, to support customer training, product demonstrations, and attend industry events. Some international travel will be necessary.
  • Must live near a major metropolitan airport to facilitate efficient travel.

Relationships

The Scientific Applications Specialist reports directly to the Global Leader, Scientific Affairs and Applications. The role requires fostering positive and effective working relationships within the organization to achieve assigned goals. Key internal interactions include:

• Sales Managers: Collaborate to maintain customer expectations, facilitate product sales, and support the sales process with product knowledge and technical expertise.
• Product Managers: Provide valuable product feedback and suggest feature requests based on customer interactions and personal expertise, contributing to continuous product improvement.
• Marketing Managers: Supply images and data to assist in the creation of compelling and relevant marketing content that highlights the benefits and applications of VisualSonics' products.

Externally, the Applications Specialist will work closely with customers to support the development, sales, support, and training of VisualSonics products. This includes demonstrating product value, providing technical support, and ensuring customers are well-versed in the use and benefits of the technology.

Knowledge and Experience:

Education:

• Advanced degree (Ph.D. or Master’s) in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Biomedical Engineering, Biology, Physics) preferred, or equivalent experience.

Qualifications:

• Extensive experience in preclinical imaging, particularly with ultrasound and photoacoustic technology.
• Strong technical background with the ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
• Excellent knowledge in small animal anatomy and physiology.
• In-depth knowledge in oncology, cardiology, and neurobiology.
• Good understanding of genetics and molecular biology.
• Proficient in using imaging software and analytical tools.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively, including occasional international trips.
• Valid driver’s license and passport required.

• Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

Nice to Have:

• Proven experience in customer training, technical support, or customer service in a scientific or technical field.
• Experience in medical software and knowledge of imaging applications is an asset.
• 3+ years of clinical applications experience with ultrasound, either for an equipment manufacturer or in a clinical ultrasound facility.
• Degree in radiology technology or diagnostic/digital imaging or equivalent.
• RDMS and RDCS (Adult and/or Pediatric) certification is a plus, but not essential.

• $90,000.00/year base + variable pay
