About the Job
Concordia University Ann Arbor is seeking part-time adjunct faculty in Clinical Teaching for the School of Ursing. The appointment will begin in the Fall 2016 semester upon the hiring of a suitable candidate and may be a renewable position. Specific areas that need to be filled include:
Definition of Position: A registered professional nurse who is primarily responsible for the supervision of students in the clinical setting. This contract is renewed on a semester basis.
Position Requirements:
- Current licensure and registration to practice professional nursing in Michigan.
- Have a minimum Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Prefer Master of Science degree in Nursing.
- Have a minimum of two years of experience as a staff nurse.
- Have a recommendation from current nurse manager.
- Previous teaching in a baccalaureate nursing program is preferred.
- Current knowledge of clinical practice within the area of teaching responsibility is required.
- Attendance at all clinical coordination meetings.
- Attendance at simulation experiences with clinical group several times during the semester.
Specific Responsibilities: Each faculty member is expected to comply with all rules and regulations for University faculty as outlined in the Adjunct Faculty Handbook. In addition, each faculty member has the following responsibilities.
Clinical
- Contacts facility for orientation.
- Orients self to Concordia's philosophy and nursing framework used (review Student Handbook, Nursing Faculty Handbook, and clinical instructor binder contents).
- Review policies related to student clinical dress, absenteeism, CPR, TB, etc.
- Orients students to clinical setting.
- Plans student assignments in the clinical setting.
- Selects and evaluates the method of student preparation for clinical assignments.
- Review content presented in respective theory course.
- Teaches content relevant to client's medical and/or nursing needs.
- Evaluates student's written or verbal plan of care.
- Reviews student's clinical portfolio.
- Assures nursing care of student's client is accomplished in a timely and appropriate fashion.
- Arrives at facility 30 minutes prior to actual clinical time for students and adjusts to necessary changes.
- Corrects assigned clinical projects - i.e. Journals, care plans, management projects, etc.
- Communicates to course faculty and clinical liaison any concerns or questions.
- Provides frequent feedback to students including mid-rotation and end-of-rotation conferences.
- Recognizes the need for and completes a referral for remediation if necessary.
- Completes written evaluation of each student including recommendations for advancement at the end of each rotation.
- Keeps ongoing records of student performance in the clinical setting.
- Works collaboratively with staff at assigned clinical facility.
- Evaluates clinical facility at end of semester and make recommendations.
- Completes Clinical Nursing Orientation.
Professional Activity
- Maintains current knowledge of clinical practice within the area of teaching responsibility.
- Maintains knowledge of current teaching methods.
- Updates curriculum vitae annually.
- Participates in professional and community organizations.
- Upholds the mission of Concordia University.
