About the Job
SON faculty members who have advanced practice specialization (nurse practitioner, nursemidwife, clinical nurse specialist or nurse anesthetist) may function in all of the missions of the School. Scholarly teaching is an expectation for all. The faculty member must be nationally certified and state licensed. If practice is a part of the FTE assignment, the faculty member must also be credentialed and privileged as a member of the OHSU Professional Staff in accordance with the specialty bylaws. The faculty member will provide services as determined by the Dean in furtherance of the university's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. The advanced practice faculty member is expected to comply with scope of practice, other laws, regulations, OHSU and SON policy, and other applicable professional standards of practice.
This position reports to (supervisor): Michele Megregian
Function/Duties of Position:
- Practice that emanates from the School of Nursing is expected to support the teaching and research missions of the School.
- In the practice environment, teaching occurs concurrently with clinical activities. Specific duties include:
- Provide supplementary coverage of labor and delivery calls when the permanent faculty are ill, in retreat, traveling professionally, on vacation, or leave.
- The primary expectation is the provision of clinical midwifery services to patients in the faculty practice during both day and night shifts.
Scholarly Activities:
- Development of a program of research is an expectation of this position.
Education Activities
Teaching graduate nursing students in the Nurse Midwifery programs. This includes teaching and leadership in program and curriculum development and advising and mentoring of students.
Service Activities
- These activities could include faculty meetings, committee membership, professional activities, and other responsibilities as assigned by the Program Director.
Administrative Activities:
- None.
Other Activities
- The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach, and public service.

- Master’s Degree
Experience
A minimum of one year of full scope midwifery practice is required
2 years of clinical practice experience required
Licensure
- AMCB certification as a nurse-midwife
- Oregon RN license
- Oregon nurse-midwifery license
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
- NRP certification

Job-Related Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Competencies)
- Demonstrated ability to satisfy standards of performance delineated by law and associated professional practice standards, the latter set forth as an addendum to the position description.
- Ability to manage a heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Proficient in the use of computing hardware and software, including personal computing equipment, electronic medical record, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
- Regular and consistent attendance at work.
Working Conditions
- Frequent interruptions in an environment of frequent change and fluctuations.
- May be required to attend out-of-town conferences according to School of Nursing travel and reimbursement policies.
- May be exposed to body fluids, tissue, possible radiation exposure, and infectious processes.
- Subject to computer work for several hours, as needed.
- Able to use all appropriate patient care and office equipment within the work area.
Physical Requirements
- Standing: On concrete, vinyl, or carpeting up to 4 hours per day and intermittently.
- Sitting: Chair or stool continuous for up to 8 hours per day and intermittently.
- Changing Position: Intermittently, as needed.
- Walking: Intermittently up to 4 hours per day on concrete, vinyl, and carpeting.
Carrying: Up to 50 pounds (supplies, equipment, books, papers, etc) for intermittent periods and distances.
- Lifting: Up to 50 pounds (patients, equipment, supplies, books, etc) Intermittent throughout the day.
- Pushing/Pulling: Up to 100 pounds, intermittent, throughout the day.
- Bending: From the waist and knees, frequently throughout the day
- Reaching/Handling: Fine manipulation, repetitive, gross motor requiring full ROM in upper extremities,
- including overhead reaching.
- Twisting: All ROM required, intermittent periods, throughout the day.
