School Nurse (RN) from Vanguard Temporaries, Inc.

We are seeking a Registered Nurse to work at the NYS School for the Deaf in Rome, NY. This is a full-time School Nurse position with the following hours:

• Monday: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
• Tuesday to Friday: 7:00 am - 3:00 pm

Job Duties:

• Count controlled medications and receive a report from the night shift.
• Administer medications as needed throughout the day, including those prior to students’ gym classes or as ordered.
• Load rolling cart with emergency bag, medications, and supplies.
• Assess a student’s tracheostomy and Mi-key button tube upon arrival and dismissal from school; provide care, monitor weight and oral intake, and document in the chart.
• Carry a radio and respond to student or staff emergency calls.
• Assess students with complaints of injury or illness; contact parents as necessary.
• Monitor the attendance list and contact parents/guardians for reasons for student absences.
• Check students’ charts for immunizations, updated physicals, and consents; provide copies to the education secretary for student files.
• Clean work area after each student visit.
• Document all assessments and care provided in the progress notes for students and staff.
• At the end of the shift, clean work area, count controlled medications with the incoming nurse, and give a shift report.

Requirements:

• Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in NYS
• CPR Certified
• Experience with tracheostomy care, gastric tubes, asthma, medication administration, and special needs children
• Pediatrics experience
• Triage experience
• Strong computer skills
