Position title: Temporary School Health Office Assistant (LPN or RN)
POSITION SUMMARY
The School Health Office Assistant assists the Certified School Nurse in providing care to students and staff members of both CCCS locations. Under the guidance of the School Nurse, this individual will provide medical attention to student or staff when an injury or acute illness occurs. Essential tasks include providing first aid according to written guidelines, documentation of care provided, data entry, maintaining student health records, administering medication, and working in a collaborative environment with students, parents and staff. During periods when students are exposed to communicable diseases, this person will assist in immunization or exclusion measures.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Check temperatures; render limited first aid; assist with screening procedures
- Assist the Registered Nurse with documentation of clinic visits and care provided daily
- Administer medication appropriately per School District's medication policy and complete appropriate documentation; ensure secure storage for medication
- Performs related work as assigned by the Registered Nurse
- Perform CPR and First Aid when required and as trained for students, employees and visitors
- Activate EMS as needed
- Assist with maintenance of immunization records and inform appropriate officials of deficits
- Maintain a detailed log of all health room visitors
- Complete office administrative tasks, as needed, including filing, maintaining files, and assisting with mailings
- Follow medical protocols as directed by the school nurse
- Report immediately all emergencies and /or critical situations to the school nurse and administration
- Maintain strict confidentiality at all times
- Communicate with parents/guardians in a professional manner
- Maintain medical supplies; consistently ensure a sanitary environment
- Follow CDC and DOH guidelines, including protocols specific to COVID-19
- Follow the Health & Safety plan of CCCS
- Other duties as assigned
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
In order to qualify for this position, candidates must have current and acceptable completion of (or ability to obtain prior to employment):
- Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification (Act 24)
- PA State Police Criminal History Clearance (Act 34)
- FBI Criminal History Clearance (Act 114)
- Mandated Child Abuse Reporter Training (Act 126)
- Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151)
- Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release (Act 168)
- Recent Physical/Tuberculosis Test
In addition, the following are needed:
- Valid PA license as LPN or RN preferred
- Current CPR Training (BLS) and First Aid Training is required
- Relevant work experience in a school setting is required
- Experience maintaining confidential files and documentation and handling other office tasks in a detailed and accurate way is required
- A flexible personality that demonstrates enthusiasm, celebrates success, and responds positively to adversity, with skills that relate well with students, staff, and administration
- A strong work ethic and an excellent attendance record
- Strong communication skills
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Very high levels of social interaction, with daily and consistent work with teachers and staff members.
- Communicating with people face-to-face on a daily basis, as well as communication through phone, e-mail, letters, and memos.
- Working very near others, within a few feet or less, which may result in exposure to diseases and infections, such as colds and influenza.

- Being placed in conflict situations where parents and students might become angry or unpleasant.
