This position is responsible for growing and maintaining a portfolio of SBA guaranteed loans. It meets with new and existing business members, guiding them through the SBA loan application process, assessing their eligibility, and helping them prepare necessary documentation. It ensures the accuracy of SBA loan applications submitted for approval. It provides in-depth analysis of the SBA loan portfolio to identify future credit opportunities and mitigate potential issues with existing loans. This position provides high quality and professional service to members, departments, and branches. It contributes to organizational deposit and product growth through effective sales. It actively participates in meetings with management and staff to improve operations.
Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for growing the SBA loan portfolio and generating new lending opportunities.
a. Works with business partners within and outside the credit union. Contacts and visits with new leads.
b. Educates business members about SBA loan programs, their benefits, requirements, and the application process.
c. Understands and identifies business financial needs. Provides personalized advice and offers suitable SBA loan options.
d. Maintains excellent relationships with existing members. Meets needs and expands relationships.
e. Contributes to deposit growth by cross-selling and promoting additional credit union products.
f. Interviews applicants and recommends underwriting of new SBA loan requests.
g. Analyzes applicant financial status and credit to determine feasibility of granting a new loan.
2. Assumes responsibility for the financial and background analysis of new SBA loan requests.
a. Maintains current knowledge of SBA program requirements and lending guidelines, industry trends, and market conditions.
b. Requests and gathers complete financial information for all borrowers and guarantors.
c. Inputs gathered information into lending recommendations and performs comprehensive analysis of information.
d. Clearly states SBA loan eligibility, conducts in-depth financial analysis to determine credit worthiness, and identifies potential risks.
e. Recommends proposed loan structure to preserve credit quality and be competitive in the market.
f. Follows all policies and procedures in preparing loan recommendations for submission to loan review committee. Presents loan and recommendation to committee.
g. Works closely with internal team, including underwriters, and loan closers to facilitate a smooth approval and closing process.
h. Ensures all files are complete and in filing order when turned over to the loan administration group.
3. Responsible for managing assigned SBA loan portfolio.
a. Monitors existing loan portfolio performance. Address any potential issues or delinquencies.
b. Gathers financial information from borrowers and guarantors. Performs analysis of financial information and provides recommendations for future actions as needed.
c. Writes credit memorandums regarding issues or changes to any assigned loan.
d. Negotiates collection arrangements as needed.
e. Communicates all issues on loans to management.
4. Assumes responsibility for maintaining professional business relations with members,
vendors, and trade professionals.
a. Represents the Credit Union. Ensures that the Credit Union’s professional reputation is maintained both internally and externally.
b. Ensures that requests, questions, and problems are addressed courteously, and professionally. Resolves concerns promptly or refers requests to the appropriate party.
c. Establishes and maintains professional business relations. Provides high quality service to members and business/trade contacts.
d. Obtains and conveys information as needed.
e. Maintains confidentiality.
5. Responsible for completion of related duties as required.
a. Completes miscellaneous duties as needed.
b. Ensures that work areas are clean, secure, and well maintained.
c. Completes special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Training/Education/Certification:
• College graduate.
• Degree in business related field preferred.
Required Experience:
• Minimum of 10 years’ related experience.
• Experience reading, dissecting, and interpreting financial statements.
• Experience interviewing, underwriting, and presenting commercial loans.
• Sales experience. Ability to seek out and generate new business.
Required Knowledge:
• Knowledge of general lending policies, procedures, and requirements.
• Knowledge of Credit Union policies and procedures.
• Familiarity with Credit Union products and processes.
• Understanding of accounting, financial statements, banking, and GAAP requirements.
• Understanding of business analysis, credit worthiness, and underwriting.
• Understanding of MS Office and financial analysis software.
