The Sample Preparation Team Leader oversees the daily production of technicians in the Sample Preparation Department, under the guidance of the Shift Supervisor. The Team Leader leads by example and ensures the work performed by the technicians is conducted safely, efficiently, in a timely manner and in compliance with SGS's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The Team Leader is responsible for: · Guiding and supervising employees as well as for training new technicians in the department. · Communicating issues or delays that may impact project timelines or outcomes. · Complying with all health and safety procedures and promoting a safe working environment. Participating in resolution and follow up of QAQC related actions associated to the sample preparation department

JOB FUNCTIONS
- Coordinate workflow and demonstrate good leadership through the Sample Preparation department to ensure turnaround times and production targets are met.
- Work with the Shift Supervisor to manage staff and equipment maximizing operational excellence; ensure proper sample handling, log-in, and on-time sample delivery to appropriate laboratory departments.
- Train staff and lead by example when processing samples to ensure that the team follows the lab’s SOPs.
- Apply a level of technical judgment to identify potential problems for samples processed by all members of the team and ensuring operating supplies and equipment is appropriate for current workloads.

JOB COMPLEXITY
- Assist with troubleshooting.
- Mentor new technicians.
- Ensure the laboratory produces quality results.
- Identify and communicate to the Shift Supervisor any deviations in sample conditions, problems with equipment, supplies, or human resources.

- Ensure all Health and Safety procedures and protocols are followed, to minimize hazards and prevent any injuries/incidents.
- Follow all QA/QC protocols to ensure compliance with 17025 Accreditation, results impact client decisions.
- Ensure all client communications are handled professionally and transparently, maintaining trust and confidence.
- Decisions have potential impact on clients and company goals, resulting in substantial outcome on the achievement of the organization.

- Sound knowledge of approved Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions and QA/QC protocols.
- Identify own/other’s errors in work and failures in procedures or processes. Initiate investigations, seeking support from Supervisors, Managers and Technical personnel.
