Salary Range: $170,000 - $180,000 per year
Job Description
A leading accounting and consulting firm is seeking a SALT Senior Tax Manager – Income Tax to join its State and Local Tax (SALT) group. The Senior Tax Manager will lead income tax and related sales tax projects, including nexus and taxability reviews, state and local audits, reverse audits (refund reviews), and high-level technical tax memoranda. This role involves managing client engagements, mentoring team members, and contributing to the firm’s practice development efforts.
Responsibilities
- Perform technical tax reviews and approvals of multistate income tax returns for entities including C Corps, S Corps, LLCs, and Partnerships.
- Conduct nexus and apportionment reviews and provide advanced technical tax advice.
- Oversee and manage tax research projects, delivering accurate and efficient results.
- Actively participate in client meetings and tax planning initiatives, supporting Partners and Directors.
- Manage governmental tax examinations and represent clients before taxing authorities.
- Ensure adherence to timely billing and collection processes.
- Stay current on economic, political, and legislative trends affecting tax regulations and client businesses.
- Research and evaluate tax software tools, recommending improvements to Partners.
- Contribute to practice development through networking, community involvement, and industry activities.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Develop, coach, and mentor Supervising Seniors, Seniors, and Staff Accountants.
- Deliver presentations on tax matters through conferences or articles.
- Lead training and development initiatives for the Tax Department staff.
Qualifications
- 8-12 years of progressive public accounting experience with increasing complexity in tax scope, research, and client representation.
- At least 2 years of experience representing clients before taxing authorities.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience supervising and directing tax preparers.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; Master’s degree in Taxation preferred.
- Minimum of 40 hours of continuing education annually.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current tax laws and key sales tax issues.
- Proficiency in tax research and preparation software.
