Position Summary
The Sales Manager, Navy Valves will lead and oversee the sales team responsible for identifying business opportunities, quoting customer demands, providing exceptional customer service, and cultivating long-term relationships. This role acts as the face of the company for new opportunities, pre-award negotiations, and in-process quoting activities. Reporting to the Director of Business Development, the Sales Manager plays a crucial role in achieving the organization’s sales goals with support from a team of contract specialists and inside sales representatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead cross-functional teams in a matrix environment to ensure timely and accurate quote deliveries to the U.S. Navy and the defense industrial supply base.
- Collaborate with engineering, planning, purchasing, operations, quality, and program management teams to support the quoting process.
- Oversee and manage customer solicitation quoting activities, ensuring a clear understanding of requirements and scope.
- Ensure all quotes are accurate, high-quality, and meet internal review and approval standards.
- Submit approved quotes to customers and oversee their conversion into purchase orders.
- Finalize negotiations with customers, including knowledge and application of terms and conditions.
- Maintain proactive communication with customers throughout the quoting and capture phases to align with purchase order timelines and address demand changes promptly.
- Coordinate responses to customer inquiries during the quoting and capture process.
- Serve as a technical resource, working collaboratively with internal teams to address challenges and provide solutions.
- Develop in-depth product knowledge to effectively discuss and recommend solutions to customers.
- Communicate customer feedback (Voice of the Customer) to internal teams and ensure timely action is taken to meet expectations.
- Track and maintain accurate sales metrics, including opportunity tracking.
- Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proven experience leading medium-to-large-scale quotation activities.
- Strong technical acumen with familiarity in manufacturing concepts, practices, and procedures.
- In-depth customer service knowledge with the ability to solve both routine and complex problems independently or collaboratively.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead through influence and collaborate across teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and intermediate data entry skills.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, STEM, Finance, or Economics preferred. Significant relevant work experience may substitute for a degree on a case-by-case basis.
- 5+ years of experience in government contracting sales, with expertise in delivering accurate and timely quotes. Commitment to adhering to processes and procedures is essential.
Other Requirements
- Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.
