Summary
The Sales Engineer is responsible for actively promoting the portfolio of Electric Power retail solutions with existing and new customers, building and maintaining strong relationships with contractors and end users, and increasing sales and market share of Caterpillar generators and related products and services. The role requires a balance of technical acumen and sales skill to ensure that Cat Electric Power solutions are the preferred choice for the power needs of commercial, industrial and municipal customers.
Essential Functions
- Identify and develop opportunities to grow sales of Electric Power solutions with new and existing customers.
- Develop and execute territory coverage strategy to ensure successful relationships with Key Accounts, Prospects, and Influencers in the Charlotte, Triad and Asheville markets.
- Review specifications and RFP’s, develop accurate proposals and successfully influence decision-makers.
- Develop a close working relationship with internal business partners in sales operations, project management, Product Support, Rental, and Advanced Electrical Solutions teams to ensure maximizing of scope and customer satisfaction through the project delivery phase of each order.
- Utilize online and hands-on training options to develop expertise in product features, performance and configuration options of generators, transfer switches and other related solutions.
- Collaborate with field representatives at Caterpillar and other key supply-chain partners on engineering, performance, pricing, and delivery questions to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Be in tune with competitor strategy, offerings and broader market trends.
- Maintain important records such as notable interactions, opportunities, quotations and project schedules within Salesforce CRM.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
- 5+ years relevant experience in electric power sales or project management preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of selling techniques (prospecting, overcoming objections, closing).
- Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and effectively with customers and business partners.
- Ability to read and comprehend engineering specifications, electrical one-line drawings and other technical documents relevant to the position.
- Practical knowledge of accounting principles, budget preparation, and business acumen.
- Organized and detail-oriented in order to successfully manage many customer relationships and sales opportunities at all times.
- Possess a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and have ability to travel during the day regularly, and overnight occasionally.

MS Office products, online configuration tools, CRM systems such as Salesforce
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Have a knowledge of financial merchandising and have the ability to calculate leases.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
