JOB DESCRIPTION: SALES ASSISTANT
Position/Title: Sales Assistant
Exempt/Non-Exempt: Exempt
Reports to: Territory Sales Manager
GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The basic responsibility of a Garland Staffing Solutions Sales Assistant is to assist a Sales Manager in achieving maximum sales profitability, growth and account penetration within an assigned territory and/or market segment by effectively selling the company’s products and/or related services. The Sales Assistant will also conduct inspections of roof installations in progress, digital photo reports, creating reports with custom software RAMP (roof asset management program), researching territory for competition and potential contractors, telemarketing and assisting the Sales Manager with trade shows and seminar opportunities.
CORE & ESSENTIAL TASKS:
- Develop a strong roofing knowledge and skill base by conducting roofing investigations, inspections and demonstrations and become highly proficient in the technical aspects of roofing by (1) being knowledgeable about roofing techniques, laws and codes and (2) engaging in the practical aspects of inspecting and analyzing roofs.
- Promote, sell and secure orders from existing and prospective customers through a relationship-based approach in the assigned territory/market segment to generate new business for products and services
- Track jobsite progress via daily reports and photographs.
- Monitors the work and compares work in place to the schedule requirements
- Enforce quality assurance and control for compliance with the specification.
- Provide daily updates to Sales Manager.
- Demonstrates products and services to existing/potential customers and assists them in selecting those best suited to their needs.
- Provide high-quality customer service to accounts who have questions regarding their invoices by means of phone calls, emails, and/or in-person meetings.
- Make telephone calls and in-person visits and presentations to existing and prospective customers.
- Research sources for developing prospective customers and for information to determine their potential.
- Develop clear and effective written proposals/quotations for current and prospective customers.
- Coordinates sales effort with marketing, sales management, accounting, logistics and technical service groups.
- Keeps abreast of product applications, technical services, market conditions, competitive activities, advertising and promotional trends through the reading of pertinent literature and consulting with marketing and technical service areas.
- Participates in trade shows and conventions.
- Establish goals and priorities and prepare for contingencies by carrying appropriate samples and materials to presentations and otherwise evidence a high level of sales-oriented activity.
- Determine the cost-effectiveness of each account by sizing up the customer’s problems and needs while always being cognizant of personal objectives and the potential profit contribution to the company.
- Provide customer service, handle complaints, forecast and expedite shipments and develop personal relationships.
- Ability to work and cooperate as a member of a team in the overall marketing strategies of Garland Staffing Solutions by exemplifying a good attitude and the acceptance of responsibility to coordinate efforts and cooperate with appropriate objectives at all levels. Cooperation implies a willingness to handle special projects, assist at trade shows, and adhere to company sales and marketing policies.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and a post-secondary degree is preferred. Must successfully pass all required background screenings and obtain the requisite security clearance(s) to gain access to locations which require more stringent background scrutiny (example: military bases/installations). Demonstrated aptitude for problem-solving; ability to determine solutions for customers (consultative sales approach). Must be results-orientated and able to work both independently and within a team environment. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite applications and contact management software. Driving is a requirement for this position. Therefore, must have the ability to travel domestically via operating a motor vehicle and maintain a valid driver license and driving record which is acceptable to our insurance provider. Must have a vehicle in good working condition and ensure it meets all safety, insurance, and legal requirements. The ability to travel by plane and/or overnight travel may also be required.
PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to communicate in a clear, concise and effective manner with customers, account representatives, company representatives, management, staff, and the public in face-to-face, one-on-one and group settings. Maintaining regular predictable and punctual attendance at assigned job locations is essential. The ability to Sit, stand, and/or walk for extended time periods. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to use office equipment such as a personal computer, copier and facsimile machines. Ability to sit or stand for extended time periods. Ability to carry, push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 lbs. of roofing material routinely. Ability to read at, above, and below shoulder height. Occasionally stoop, kneel or crouch. Have sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment. Ability to climb ladders/extension ladders routinely. Ability to climb, traverse and maneuver across different roof levels while adhering to fall protection requirements as necessary. Have sufficient manual dexterity to safely cut and manipulate products/materials. Ability to properly use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Ability to work in inclement weather with frequent exposure to the elements. Normal range of tolerance to household and other types of typical industrial/construction chemicals and solvents.
