Job Summary
The Field Safety Specialist is responsible for acting as the front-line safety professional conducting safety inspections, observations, investigations, safety training, and regulatory compliance for OSHA, DOT, and EPA. The Safety Specialist anticipates and predicts hazards based on experience, historical data, and other informational sources. He/she identifies and recognizes hazards in existing or future systems, equipment, products, facilities, work sites and operational work procedures. The Field Safety Specialist evaluates and assesses the probability and severity of loss events and accidents which may result from actual or potential hazards. The specialist applies methods of conducting hazard analyses and interprets the results. The safety specialist provides advice and counseling about compliance with safety, health and environmental laws, codes, regulations, standards, and the related company requirements. Assist Project Safety Director in safety program implementation.
Responsibilities
+ Working knowledge of OSHA 1910 and 1926.
+ Conducts Incident/Accident Investigations and identifies root cause.
+ Assist management in the prevention of occupational illness, injury, and safety violations.
+ Provide feedback to Project Safety Director relative to job site safety compliance.
+ As needed provide safety training to employees in accordance with OSHA/DOT/EPA regulations.
+ Assume the duties of Project Safety Director as needed
+ Provide support in the implementation and monitoring of the Corporate Safety Program.
+ Identifies/mitigates existing and potential employee/public safety concerns.
+ Perform Field Safety audits.
+ Interfaces with customer on safety issues.
+ Conduct OSHA 10-20-30 hour training issues.
+ Other duties and projects as assigned.
+ Strong organizational and document management skills.
+ Ability to multitask and maintain effectiveness with multiple priorities.
+ Professional demeanor; remain calm and emotionally controlled under pressure.
+ Detailed oriented and high attention to accuracy.
+ Solid mathematical skills.
Qualifications
+ Travel 75% of time.
+ High school diploma or equivalent
+ Must have a current and valid State Driver's License.
+ 3-5+ year’s work experience in Substation or Transmission Construction.
+ Specific documented evidence of training and experience to satisfy qualifications.
+ OSHA 30, OSHA 500, 502
Preferred
+ Possess 2 years of experience as a Field Safety Specialist or Safety Coordinator.
+ Some college business courses
+ BA/BS in Health or Safety related field.
+ Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP).
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
