Duration: 6 month contract, but potential to extend
Schedule: 40 hrs Mon-Fri

The Safety Engineer serves as plant wide expert on all safety related issues, including implementation and enforcement of all applicable OSHA standards, managing OSHA Voluntary Protection Program and is responsible to advise site management regarding site wide regulatory compliance and implementation of industry best practices as they relate to all worker and process safety issues. The position provides guidance and support to the site health and safety team.
Responsibilities:
- Develops and delivers safety training to address Life Saving Rules, 20 Principals, OSHA requirements, the client's requirements & standards, and site H&S policies, programs and procedures.
- Assessing new technologies and practices to reduce the risk of injuries/illnesses, and evaluating trends and TAR performance on safety and health system elements to make recommendations for improvements.
- Develop and implement contractor safety management programs, including routine contractor safety approvals.
- Develops and revises Turnaround SHE execution plans
- Develops and delivers safety training to address the client's Life Saving Rules, 20 Principals, OSHA requirements, the client's requirements & standards, and site H&S policies, programs and procedures.
- Manages assigned safety programs and procedures, monitors conformance and intervenes to improve performance.
- Leads and participates in risk assessments to identify hazards, potential impacts, and agreement of appropriate risk management measures.
- Provides expertise, coaching, consultation, and hands-on support to customers across the site. Addresses safety and health issues including OSHA, process safety, behavioral safety and the client's standards.
- Provides Health and Safety support, consultation and expertise to turnarounds.
- Analyzes site safety data and trends, communicates results, and recommends interventions to improve performance.
- Responsible for Contractor Management regarding SHE and the Contractor SHE Program Manual.
- Development of TAR Safety Plans. Prepare and lead daily TAR SHE meetings.
- Conducts field reviews, audits, and investigations which may involve working at heights, entry into confined spaces and/or hazardous work locations, operating lift equipment, and locking/tagging out equipment.
- Review and assist with contractor safety approvals.
- Coordinate approval of new chemicals brought onsite as SME for safety.
- Participating and/or coordinating various H&S audits/assessments and action plan development. Most important activities:
- Assisting and/or conducting risk assessments, compliance assurance audits and incident investigations.
- Providing health and safety expertise in Turnaround planning to ensure incorporation of H&S concerns and activities into work development and execution.
- Prepare and deliver safety communications for turnaround meetings such as, safety tool box discussion, rapid incident reports, SHE alerts and other safety communications as required.
- Assist with incident investigations, MOC and PSSR as needed.
- Perform incident/injury trend analysis.
- Review and improve safety systems such as work permits, JSA
Requirements:
- Degree preferred: B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil or equivalent) or Occupational / Industrial Safety
- Number of Years Experience Preferred 5-10 years in chemical industrial, industrial health/safety
- Number of Years Experience Required for Competency: 5+
- Preferred: Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
