Job Summary :
The Occupational Safety Officer position is multifaceted, to ensure that Rush Oak Park Hospital (ROPH) is a safe environment for our employees, staff, guests, and patients. The safety officer will actively participate in operations which supports employee safety, emergency preparedness, and facility regulatory guidelines and codes. Operations including but not limited to: Safety related Committees, EOC Rounding, Fit testing, Fire Drills, Emergency preparedness exercises, Safety Education, Internal safety communications, Inspections and Audits, Injury investigations and safety program evaluation and improvement. The position will have a dual reporting role to the Director of Facilities and the Director of Occupational Safety. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities:
· Stay current with facility and safety related standards, codes and applicable Rush Oak Park Hospital policies.
· Develop and implement project plans to correct facility deficiencies.
· Review, validate and ensure timely completion of regulatory documentation.
· Maintain a highly organized recordkeeping system for regulatory documentation.
· Develop Monthly Safety and Emergency Management internal communications (Awareness Level)
· Perform Inspections as need or prescribed by policy, i.e. Lab Safety inspections, Non-Patient Care rounds, Environment of Care rounds
· Ensure the Fire plan is being followed and develop process as needed to ensure the task are followed.
· Perform Construction Safety Inspection Daily
· Review and approve Project Risk Assessment (PRA)
· Train and document Interim Life Safety Measure training
· Provide Hands on Fire Extinguisher Training (annually and per request)
· Schedule, coordinate, score and evaluate Fire Drills
· Maintain, update and communicate changes to Chemical Inventory Management system (3E)
· Evaluate PPE and Safe Needle Devices annually
· Coordinate and Manage Indoor Air Quality Testing
· Coordinate and Manage Industrial Hygiene Chemical Monitoring, i.e. Xylene, Formaldehyde, Waste Anesthetic Gases, and other new products
· Support Emergency Management Drills, Exercises, documentation, communication and coordination.
· Support HICS training and sustainability
· Support and Provide Fit Testing Services (Per ECHS schedule and per request)
· Track/report Compliance with Fit Testing, Vaccination and Annual Mandatory Training
· Collaborate with Management on the documentation of Employee Injury investigation and corrective action plans.
Required Job Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree
· At least three years of relevant experience required, preferably in a healthcare setting.
· Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and standard office equipment.
· Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
· Excellent organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to consistently provide excellent customer service in a friendly, outgoing and professional manner.
· Ability to prioritize projects; willingness to be flexible and adhere to deadlines.
· Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce error-free documents in a timely and efficient.
· Propensity and desire to learn new skills and technologies.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety, or Environmental Health or related field.
· Project Management Experience
· Knowledgeable of NFPA, Environment of Care, CMS and other facility safety related standards and codes.
