Primary Responsibilities:
As a Safety Manager, you will be responsible for creating a safe, efficient, and compliant work environment across all projects. Your role will be pivotal in preventing accidents and ensuring that both workers and job sites adhere to all health and safety regulations.
You will collaborate with estimators to integrate safety planning into project proposals and work closely with management to strengthen our safety culture. Your leadership and proactive coaching will ensure that every team member goes home safely each day.
Key Responsibilities:
- Field Safety Leadership: Observe and coach coworkers, subcontractors, and field employees to correct unsafe conditions and behaviors, ensuring a safe and proactive work environment.
- Safety Culture Advocacy: Lead key initiatives to improve safety culture and compliance across all projects, helping to establish a mindset where safety is everyone's responsibility.
- On-site Safety Inspections: Conduct thorough safety inspections of personnel, equipment, and materials to identify potential hazards and maintain compliance with safety standards.
- Project Safety Planning: Work closely with project teams to develop detailed site safety plans and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) for all projects, ensuring safety is embedded into every phase of work.
- Training and Certification: Provide and maintain training for field employees on essential safety topics including fall protection, CPR, PPE, aerial lift operations, bloodborne pathogens, proper lifting techniques, and more. Ensure all team members hold up-to-date safety certifications.
- Safety Risk Mitigation: Advise on safety provisions and make recommendations to minimize risks and enhance site safety.
- Accident and Incident Management: Lead investigations into accidents and incidents, conduct root-cause analyses, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Recognition of Safety Excellence: Reinforce positive safety behavior by recognizing and rewarding individuals who demonstrate commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
- Training Delivery: Prepare and conduct safety training sessions, including OSHA 10- and 30-hour certification classes, to ensure employees understand and follow safety standards.
- Compliance Monitoring: Monitor safety compliance across projects and intervene immediately if unsafe activities or operations are identified.
- Documentation & Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of safety-related incidents, training logs, and compliance documentation.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively lead, educate, and collaborate across teams.
- Excellent organizational skills with a keen ability to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines without compromising quality.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other computer tools required for tracking and reporting safety metrics.
Education & Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- At least five years of experience in commercial roofing or a related market, with proven expertise in safety management.
- OSHA 500 certification is highly preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) – Written and verbal fluency is required.
