Join our proactive safety and health team as a pivotal player in developing, implementing, and monitoring robust safety and health programs at our mining facilities. This role is designed for a dedicated professional committed to fostering a culture of safety and well-being and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory standards. You will be instrumental in empowering employees to perform their duties safely, minimizing the risk of injury or health impairment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a technical advisor and mentor, collaborating with senior Safety & Health (S&H) professionals to devise and execute strategies for immediate risk mitigation and resolution of complex S&H challenges.
- Conduct internal S&H inspections and audits to pinpoint areas for corrective actions, compliance, and training enhancements.
- Collaborate across the organization to uphold all relevant federal, state, and company S&H regulations.
- Accompany management is performed during regulatory inspections by MSHA and state inspectors.
- Engage in health testing and industrial hygiene initiatives as required.
- Act as a key resource or facilitator in incident investigations using ICAM or 5 Why analysis, contributing to the development of effective corrective measures to prevent incident recurrence.
- Participate in review processes for corrective actions alongside management and staff.
- Ensure prompt and precise incident reporting and develop various report types for leadership levels.
- Maintain meticulous records and manage database entries effectively.
- Support Formal Risk Assessments, monitor action plans, and engage with division safety teams and committees.
- Offer mentorship and support to all personnel, actively engaging in safety meetings and training sessions.
- Facilitate MSHA training during orientations and refresher courses and introduce new hires to workplace hazards.
- Conduct Drug and Alcohol Testing when necessary.
- Fulfill on-call duties as needed.
- Execute additional tasks as directed.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or
- Three years of experience in mining or a related industry with demonstrated leadership in Safety
- Certification in Incident Investigation
Experience:
- In-depth knowledge of MSHA health and safety regulations
- Proven ability to assess health and safety risks
- Experience in training and coaching on health and safety matters
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook)
- Preferred possession of a Blue Card or training experience
- Solid grounding in Occupational Health
