Job Title: Safety and Environmental Specialist
Location: Huntsville, AL (On-Site)
Canvas is seeking a Safety and Environmental Specialist with a solid background in safety, occupational health, and environmental compliance. *This position is contingent upon award. *
Duties:
- Instrumental in planning, maintaining, and implementing a comprehensive safety and occupational health program.
- Self-motivated, professional, and adept at managing workload and prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced corporate setting with a strong commitment to safety and compliance.
- Daily Responsibilities Include:
- Developing Safety Standards: Creating safety criteria, guidelines, and standards across various topics
- Compliance and Reporting: Developing reports, conducting inspections, surveys, and managing adherence to Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) requirements.
- Safety Recommendations: Offering recommendations and feedback on safety issues.
- Hazard Analysis: Conducting in-depth surveys of safety programs, identifying, and analyzing safety and environmental hazards.
- Regulatory Compliance: Reviewing and updating safety policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure compliance with current directives.
- Record Keeping: Maintaining records of accidents and incidents, preparing reports, and managing documentation necessary for organizational activities.
- Safety Audits: Conducting safety audits, fire extinguisher inspections, and checking first aid kits and other safety equipment.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- Minimum 5 years of Safety Management experience.
- Ability to use and interpret safety laws, rules and regulations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.
- Master's degree in related field. (desired)
- Minimum 7 years Safety management experience. (desired)
- Experience in risk management and mitigation. (desired)
- Experience conducting workplace accident investigations. (desired)
- Regulatory Expertise: Deep knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations. (desired)
- Documentation Management: Ability to acquire and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and related regulatory requirements. (desired)
Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
Other Essential Job Functions: Some travel may be required.
