Description
Markey's, a multi-state leading provider of creative audio-visual services, is seeking a Safety Director to add to our Training department based out of our Indianapolis headquarters. The Safety Director will lead all organizational safety awareness and education efforts, developing and implementing safety policies, procedures, and practices to promote and ensure effective safety operations throughout the company.
This is a full-time, salaried (exempt) role with typical office hours.
Position Responsibilities
- Conduct safety inspections and audits at Markey’s branch locations and event sites to assess compliance with safety regulations.
- Lead Markey’s Safety Council, providing guidance and support to members and ensuring follow-through on action items.
- Review safety incident reports. Evaluate trends, recommend changes and provide guidance and additional training as needed.
- Create monthly safety newsletter.
- Maintain driver qualification files and ensure compliance with company driving policies.
- Assist with investigations into workplace injuries, as needed.
- Maintain and update Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure employee access.
- Collaborate with management to develop, update, and implement safety policies and standard operating procedures.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
- Ensure completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
- Serve as an in-house expert on rigging and power.
- Identify opportunities to minimize workplace injuries and safety accidents.
- Create and conduct employee safety training in collaboration with the Training and Development team.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or related field preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of workplace safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Event Safety Alliance (ESA) standards.
- Expertise in Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations preferred, or ability to become proficient.
- Experience in entertainment rigging and power preferred.
- Demonstrated skills in presentation and facilitation of group meetings or training; ability to engage and motivate participants.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with management and employees.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
- Ability to design and implement safety policies and safety training programs.
- Must possess a high level of attention to detail, excellent time management skills, and ability to multi-task and prioritize work responsibilities.
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office software – Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams.
- Exhibit good customer service skills, resourcefulness, and commitment to respecting and maintaining the confidentiality and privacy of employee information.
- Ability to maintain a calm demeanor, and a positive and professional appearance and attitude at all times.
- Ability to embrace Markey’s culture and demonstrate company values, respect for diversity, follow all company policies and procedures, and serve as a role model for employees.
- Physical requirements include: prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer; must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.; ability to travel and maneuver through branch offices and event spaces to conduct safety inspections.
