POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Safety Director will serve as the liaison between Air Comfort/Applied Controls and their employees and clients. Their core priority is addressing employees and customers' needs and concerns as quickly and effectively as possible to develop and maintain strong relationships and safety culture.
Recommended Qualifications for Safety Leader
Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, environmental science, engineering, or a related field is often preferred.
Advanced degrees (such as a master's in safety management) can be advantageous.
Certifications:
OSHA 30 Training:
Train The Trainer: Able to conduct in-person trainings
Certified Safety Professional (CSP): Recognized as a leading credential in the safety field.
Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST): Focuses on practical applications of safety principles.
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH): For those working in environments with chemical exposure.
Safety Management Specialist (SMS): Validates knowledge in safety management practices.
First Aid/CPR Certification: Basic emergency response training is often required.
Experience:
Hands-on experience in safety roles, often ranging from 3 to 5 years for mid-level positions.
Field experience in various environments.
Experience in conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and developing safety programs.
Knowledge of Regulations:
Familiarity with OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards is crucial.
Communication Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey safety policies and training.
Analytical Skills:
The ability to analyze data and incidents to improve safety practices.
Problem-Solving Skills:
Capability to identify hazards and implement effective solutions.
Leadership and Training Ability:
Experience in leading safety teams and training employees on safety protocols.
Industry-Specific Knowledge:
Knowledge of safety practices specific to the industry (construction, manufacturing, healthcare, etc.) can be highly beneficial.
Having a mix of these qualifications can significantly enhance an individual's prospects in safety management roles.
