General Description
Performs highly advanced senior-level informational and communications work. Work involves overseeing the research, writing, editing, and production of content and materials for release to various communications media (broadcast, print, digital, and/or social media) and for use by the agency, the public, and other agencies. May supervise the work of others. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Job Duties
Serves as primary media contact for the Railroad Commission.
Develops relationships with and helps educate the media on the important work of the RRC.
Responds professionally, accurately, and in a timely manner to all media inquiries about the agency.
Responds to inaccurate media coverage in a timely fashion.
Writes Railroad Commission news releases, and articles for monthly internal and external newsletters and other communications materials.
Conducts interviews, researches sources, and ensures the completeness and accuracy of printed and online materials.
Assists Commissioners and their staff with media requests and outreach, as needed.
Consults with and advises Communications Director on information outreach and programs.
Identifies stories to showcase the Railroad Commission's positive work.
Prepares and conducts press conferences.
Compiles daily news clips for internal distribution.
Serves as a backup for social media posting.
Assists in analyzing content for accessibility and recommends changes to remediate accessibility issues.
Assists Communications team with public assistance requests.
Performs related work as assigned.
This position requires occasional travel.

Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university majoring in Journalism, Public Relations, Digital Media,Communications, or a related field.
Three or more years professional experience in journalism, public relations, public information, communications, or mediarelations.
Experience and education may be substituted for each other on a year-for-year basis.
Valid Texas Driver's license and good driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience wo king for a state, federal, or local government agency.
Experience working for elected officials.

Work Hours and Telework:Standard office hours for Commission employees are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Our agency offers alternate schedules for employees, as long as it does not adversely affect operations and service levels, and standard hours of operation are maintained. The Commission may also offer telework based on the agencys approved Telework Plan. Alternate work schedules and telework may be discussed with the hiring manager during the interview process.
