Position Overview
The Rolling Equipment Mechanic is primarily responsible for performing corrective and preventive maintenance on fleet assets used to support shipping functions of the company. Secondary responsibilities include providing similar maintenance on the company's rolling equipment. The mechanic will diagnose issues and complete necessary repairs.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Diagnose, trouble-shoot and repair vehicles, semis, tractors, forklifts, pallet jacks, golf carts, floor scrubbers and other equipment in accordance with established guidelines and procedures
- Determine vehicle or equipment condition by conducting inspections, systems tests using electronic diagnostic tools; identify work or damaged parts
- Correct vehicle and equipment deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts or systems
- Conduct test drives to verify vehicle and equipment performance
- Perform preventive maintenance on assigned equipment according to schedule, established procedures and cost guidelines
- Complete work orders, parts order requests, verify receipt and inventory stock
- Document daily work completed
- Assists in inspections to ensure relevant Dept of Transportation / Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) regulations are met
- Maintain vehicle and equipment records per federal and state regulations and company policy
- Learn new technical information and techniques to stay current with changing technology
- Train and support other mechanics
- Maintain a clean, safe work environment
- Communicate effectively with drivers, dispatchers, equipment operators, parts suppliers and management to understand priorities and provide work order status updates
- Prompt and regular attendance at an assigned work location.
- Interact and communicate with employees and customers in an appropriate manner.
- Availability on site to confer with staff members with whom the employee must interact on a regular basis.
- Communicate via email, prepare reports and complete time sheets or work schedules.
- Review and analyze data and information concerning work orders.
- Plan, prioritize and monitor preventive maintenance activities.
- Complete assigned tasks/projects in a timely manner.
Supervisory Responsibility
No direct management or supervisory responsibilities.
Safety
Observe safety and security policies and procedures, including proper use of PPE (personal protective equipment); report potentially unsafe conditions; and use equipment and materials properly. Follow job-specific safety requirements including Safe Chemical Handling, Power and Manual Tool Safety, Ladder Safety, Safe Lift, Safe Forklift and Pallet Jack Operation. The individual must follow all safe driving laws and any on-site safety requirements.
Travel
Approximately >5% travel is required for trainings or commuting between the Quaker campuses.
Qualifications
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Good mechanical aptitude and ability
- Basic knowledge of industrial electricity
- Ability to read schematics, diagrams, operations manuals, manufacturer's specifications and follow instructions
- Ability to safely use diagnostic tools
- Must have and maintain a valid Class E Driver's License
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software: Excel, Word, Outlook
- Familiar with Manager Plus maintenance recording software preferred
Preferred Education and Experience
The expectation is that the individual has achieved a minimum level of education and/or related expertise to qualify for this position.
- High school diploma or a passed General Education Development test required
- Technical School certificate or Associate Degree preferred
- 1-2 years' experience with forklift, automotive, diesel or related industrial, aviation or military preferred

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday during normal business hours. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to keep mission critical assets operational.

This is a manufacturing job. The employee must be able to:
- regularly lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds;

- frequent standing, bending, stooping and kneeling
- occasionally crouch, crawl, climb, balance as necessary
- handling and grasping tools and parts when performing repairs of equipment
- occasional work on elevated platforms and
- It is an essential job function and safety rule, applicable to every employee working in a safety sensitive classified position, to be able to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
This position must use an assisted lift or team lift any time objects exceeding 75 pounds need lifting or carrying.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to climactic variations, fumes or airborne particles, various levels of vibration, and moving mechanical parts. Various different types of Personal Protective Equipment might be required based on the employee's work location. The noise level in the work environment may require hearing protection.
