Roadway Project Manager - O'Fallon, IL
GBA is looking for a Roadway Civil Engineer to join our Transportation Group. This position entails project management and a lead design role for transportation projects. We work on a variety of project types including planning and corridor studies, street and highway design, roadway infrastructure rehabilitation, bike and pedestrian facility design and ADA compliance, and complex interchanges. The ideal candidate will offer Illinois DOT (IDOT) design and project management expertise, however, MoDOT and other DOT design experience will be strongly considered as well. This role includes providing guidance to team members and leading by example. Strong ethical standards and a desire to help others progress in their career will be key. Responsibilities:- Manage and/or lead Design on transportation engineering projects including expansion, reconstruction or rehabilitation of intersections, local streets, collectors, arterials, rural roadways, trails and sidewalks including ADA facilities.
- Analyze reports, maps, drawings, perform site visits, and review survey data to plan and assemble construction documents.
- Conduct preliminary engineering evaluations and studies to identify design improvement alternatives, compare options, and assist in making design recommendations related to transportation projects. Prepare project quantities and cost estimates.
- Be responsible for project quality on tasks assigned as defined in the Quality Assurance / Quality Control guidelines.
- Provide hands-on expertise to lead/contribute to the design of complex projects on a multidisciplinary team.
- Coordinate assigned activities with clients to discuss special project needs, prepare a scope of projects and appropriate documents, coordinating activities to implement projects and monitor the progress of each, provide policy, technical and administrative support as needed.
- Coach and mentor less experienced staff and assist with their career development.
- Use basic project management skills to plan, organize and monitor work activities and budgets, and assist in group scheduling and planning.
- Establish and maintain client relationships with new and existing client base. (i.e., serve as a trusted advisor, Subject Matter Expert, etc.)
- Assist in business development opportunities, including preparation of proposals, participation in client meetings and engagement in marketing activities to grow our client network in Illinois.
- Prepare and present projects to governing bodies and various boards and commissions.
- Represents our clients in meetings with members of other public and private organizations, community groups, contractors, developers, and the public.
- Confirms project compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and mandates, enforcing of appropriate safety and security precautions.
- Other duties as assigned
- Possess a broad range of DOT design and project management experience.
- Ability to sell work and manage the execution of the work.
- Ability to coordinate and work closely with local and national resources.
- Familiarity with CAD software, specifically Bentley's Microstation Open Road Designer (ORD).
- Strong time and project management skills, including prioritization and multi-tasking ability in a rapidly changing environment with competing goals.
- Experience developing, monitoring, and managing project deliverables, budgets, and schedules.
- Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, procedures, laws, codes and regulations.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
- Licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois, other states a plus
- 5+ years of experience in project design and plan development, DOT experience preferred
- Experience with MicroStation
- Strong working technical knowledge of engineering principles and practices
- Experience with project pursuits and proposal development is a plus
- Ability to lead design teams on a variety of transportation project types
- Experience with negotiating project scopes and proven success managing project budgets and schedules
- Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate at all levels both internally and externally
