Job Summary: Performs the primary functions of a professional nurse leader in assessing, planning, directing and evaluating patient care in the Emergency Department. Under the direction of the Emergency Department Nurse Manager, will determine methods to improve patient care and documentation of care.
The Coordinator shall have the authority and responsibility to monitor trauma and stroke and disaster patient care from admission to discharge or transfer, including the trauma and stroke PI program.
Qualifications/Reporting:
Required minimum education: Graduate from a Professional Nursing School. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred. Has successfully completed and is current in the Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) or Advanced Trauma Course for Nurses (ATCN) or a DSHS- approved equivalent.
Required minimum experience: Minimum two years’ experience as Registered Nurse in an emergency department.
Required skills (if applicable): Demonstrated ability in nursing practice. Leadership and management abilities and effective oral and written communication skills. Working knowledge of the quality improvement process that is currently required in the Emergency Department must present a positive attitude in regard to nursing quality improvement.
Required license/certification: Registered Nurse currently licensed to practice in the State of Texas. Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC), required. Must obtain Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC), Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) Instructor, Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN), Trauma Outcomes & Performance Improvement course (TOPIC), American Trauma Society or System (FEMA), (NIMS) courses within 18 months of hire.
