Leadership

· Consults nursing leadership regarding issues or barriers in delivery of care, team member achievement of competency, system concerns, provider concerns or specific patient care problems.

· If serving in a charge RN role, evaluates daily staffing needs. Collaborates with others in the leadership team to facilitate adjustments that meet the department needs.

· Commits to the hours needed to achieve outcomes and develop others to assure round-the-clock leadership. Requires flexibility with hours worked and shifting priorities as the environment changes.

· Serves as a resource in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care in the clinical departments.

· Assists in creating a positive work environment that contributes to safe and positive clinical outcomes.

· Assists with providing a thorough and adequate orientation program for new team members and student interns.

· Assists with competency training and continuing education programming to ensure team members development needs are met for the department.

· Participates in department and hospital shared governance infrastructure ,performance improvement activities and team member engagement.

· Incorporates the St. Luke’s Hospital’s Comfort/C.A.R.E. Professional Practice Model into their daily nursing practice.

· Follows up on patient concerns in the absence of the Nurse Manager. Notifies Nurse Manager or appropriate designee of any concerns that have the potential to escalate or lead to Risk Management concerns.

· Builds trusting, collaborative relationships with team members, peers, providers, and administration to advance the core patient business strategy.

· Supports and empowers team members to act with appropriate responsibility for the work processes and work environment of which they are a part. Evokes in team members a sense of ownership of and accountability for their work. As well as stimulate team members to continuously improve their performance.

· Mentors less experienced team members, guides professional behaviors by acting as a positive role model while adhering to the policies and procedures of the organization, demonstrates the knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.

· Provides mentoring support and resources for on-boarding of new team members and on an on-going basis as needed for existing team members.

· Serves as a resource for other members of the healthcare team, including providers, who are involved with performance improvement tools (PSDA, etc.)

Minimum Requirements

Education:

· Completion of an accredited nursing program

· Be expected to obtain BSN degree within 3 years of accepting position.

· Maintains skills and requirements as outlined in the RN and Charge Nurse position descriptions

· BSN

Experience:

· Three years of clinical critical care and/or emergency experience (if BSN prepared)

Minimum of 2 years’ registered nurse experience (if MSN prepared)

License(s)/Certification(s):

· Possess current RN licensure in the State of Iowa or compact state

· Maintains current BLS, ACLS according to the standards of AHA

· PALS will be successfully obtained within 6 months of hire

· TNCC will be successfully completed within 1 year of hire and every 4 years

· Training to recognize, reduce and manage violent and/or aggressive behaviors

· Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons

· Specialty certification-CEN Certification in Emergency Nursing (must obtain within 2 years of hire)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
