JOB SUMMARY: The RN performs under the direct supervision of the Director of Obstetrics and is delegated an assignment by the Charge Nurse to achieve quality patient care. The RN Staff Nurse shall implement the nursing process in an organized, systematic manner to include assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in collaboration with the Charge Nurse as evidenced by documentation in Patient Care Record, direct observation by the Director of Obstetrics and patient evaluations of care. The RN is responsible to the Charge Nurse for patient care and ultimately accountable to the Director of Obstetrics.

- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Documents all care and pertinent information in the Medical Record to ensure continuity of care.
- Demonstrate technical aptitude for dealing with and troubleshooting Labor & Delivery equipment including but not limited to internal and external fetal monitors, intrauterine pressure catheters, epidural pumps, radiant warmers, delivery lights and IV pumps.
- Demonstrate the ability to apply critical thinking skills in emergency situations by recognizing maternal and fetal complications of the antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum period.
- Demonstrate the ability to anticipate the needs of the physicians and anesthesia providers in order to expedite emergencies.
- Demonstrate the ability to safely position the laboring patient to enhance uteroplacental blood flow and safely use leg stirrups during a vaginal delivery.
- Demonstrate the ability for assisting the physician with vacuum extractor or forceps.
- Demonstrate the ability to recognize and intervene in complications of delivery such as shoulder dystocia, hemorrhage and hypertensive crisis.
- Demonstrate the ability to tolerate physically demanding tasks of repositioning patients while under epidural anesthesia, utilizing safety measures for both yourself and/or the patient.
- Demonstrate the ability to perform safe practices related to the care of the mother/infant couplet.
- Demonstrate the ability to recognize the compromised newborn, obtain appropriate assistance and perform emergency interventions.
- Demonstrate the ability to practice and educate on the ten steps to successful breastfeeding in accordance with the Baby Friendly initiative.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Skills: Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program REQUIRED.
Work Experience: Minimum of ONE year in Obstetrics REQUIRED.

- Licensed RN able to practice within the State of MS
- Basic Life Support - Due Upon Hire

- Neonatal Resuscitation Program - Due Upon Hire
- NIH Stroke Scale - Complete Upon Hire
- S.T.A.B.L.E - Complete Upon Hire
