Job Summary:
The RN performs under the direct supervision of the Patient Care Manager (PCM) and is delegated an assignment by the charge nurse to achieve quality patient care. The RN Staff Nurse shall implement the nursing process in an organized, systematic manner to include assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in collaboration with the unit charge nurse as evidenced by documentation in the Patient Care Record, direct observation by the PCM and patient evaluations of care. The RN is responsible to the unit PCM for patient care and ultimately accountable to the Nurse Director. The RN demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Documents all care and pertinent information in the Medical Record to ensure continuity of care.
Performance Expectations:
Performance expectations will be covered in the orientation and preceptor phases of your orientation to your job.
- Demonstrate technical aptitude for dealing with and troubleshooting labor & delivery equipment including but not limited to fetal monitors, telemetry fetal monitoring, intrauterine pressure catheter, epidural pumps, radiant warmers, delivery lights and patient plum 360 pumps.
- Demonstrate the ability to apply critical thinking skills in emergency situations by recognizing complications of the pregnancy, labor, and delivery, both maternal and fetal.
- Demonstrate the ability to anticipate the needs of the physicians and anesthesia in order to expedite emergencies.
- Demonstrate the aptitude for safely positioning the laboring patient to enhance uteroplacental blood flow and safely use leg stirrups during a vaginal delivery.
- Demonstrate the aptitude for assisting the physician with vacuum extractor or forceps.
- Demonstrate the ability to recognize and intervene in complications of delivery such as shoulder dystocia, hemorrhage, and hypertensive crisis.
- Demonstrate the ability to tolerate physically demanding tasks of repositioning patients while under epidural anesthesia, utilizing safety measures for both yourself and/or patient
- Demonstrate the ability to perform safe practices related to the care of the mother/infant couplet.
- Demonstrate the ability to recognize the compromised newborn, obtain appropriate assistance, and perform emergency interventions.
- Demonstrate the ability to practice and educate on the ten steps to successful breastfeeding.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program.
Work Experience:
One year obstetrics care preferred, but not required.
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
· Licensed RN able to practice within the State of MS
