DEPARTMENT: Clinical REPORTS TO: Chief Nursing Officer
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Nurse Manager (RN) oversees the nursing functions for the patient care units in the inpatient areas at KCBM.
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
- Bachelor's Degree required from accredited school of Nursing.
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience as a nurse, with two years of nursing leadership experience preferred.
- Previous experience with acute care and/or behavioral health leadership preferred.
- CPR and de-escalation certification required (training available post hire and offered by facility). Completion of APIC Infection Control and Prevention training required within timeframe as outlined by program curriculum.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Are determined by the facility and may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Lead and develop the nursing staff within the unit, providing performance goals, feedback, and development opportunities.
- Manage staffing resources to provide appropriate licensure/skill level that meets demands of patient acuity while providing cost-effective care.
- Determine, assign, and assess performance objectives for nurses on the unit.
- Direct, supervise and evaluate work activities of all nursing personnel within the unit, with responsibility to monitor compliance to nursing standard work processes, facility policy, and professional standards of care.
- Provide clinical leadership, strategic and long-term goals for the nurses on the unit.
- Responsible for the quality of care, staff's work and operational efficiency and effectiveness of the nursing unit.
- Set and carry out policies, goals and procedures for their function or department.
- Conduct recruitment, hiring and training of nursing partners.
- Lead and facilitate competency-based training programming for nursing services partners, to include new hire training, annual training and competency validation programs, and event-based education as determined by Key Performance Indicator results, event investigation results, debriefing from patient safety events, and other sources of information as appropriate.
- Executes Infection Control surveillance duties, such as ensuring appropriate isolation and infection prevention practices within the care area. Completes the required Infection Control testing and surveillance of partners upon hire and throughout employment as needed. Partners with Quality Management to collaborate on reporting of required elements as defined by CMS, TN Department of Health, and other regulatory agencies as indicated.

- Maintain competencies as required by program standards and the state's Board of Nursing.
- Establish and maintain a cooperative professional relationship with the facility personnel and external agencies.
- Provide educational in services to the para-professional staff, families and community requested.
- Operate as a liaison between patients, families, and other health care providers.
- Follow the policies and procedures of the program.
- Supervise/orientate professional students or co-workers as requested.
- Adhere to billing requirements to ensure appropriate reimbursement.
- Participate in the making the assessment and admission process accessible to consumers and interested parties.
- Maintain good attendance, a professional appearance, and a positive punctuality history.
Communication:
- Uses communication styles that meets the needs of each individual partner, patient, and family member.
- Demonstrates customer service behaviors when interacting with patients, team members and guests.
- Communicates patient information in a concise, accurate, timely, and confidential manner.
- Utilizes available resources to assist with communication needs
- Ensures that accurate information is communicated in a timely and effective manner throughout the hospital.
- Maintains a collaborative relationship with other departments.
