Surgical/Neuro ICU is a sixteen-bed unit. Nurse to patient ratio is 2:1 Our team includes 24/7 intensivist coverage, virtual ICU, and Physician Assistants. Our leadership includes a nurse manager, clinical nurse supervisor and charge RNs. The SICU is home to the hospital’s rapid response team that responds to calls throughout the hospital and stroke arrivals to the ED. Mercy South is a trauma level two center and a Joint Commission Comprehensive Center for stroke care.
Types of patients cared for include:
- Abdominal, vascular and neuro post-surgical patients.
- Neuro muscular diseases / status epilepticus / brain tumor
- Ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke and associated interventions
- Patients requiring ventilatory care, external ventricular devices, targeted temperature management, continuous renal replacement therapy and neuro muscular paralytics.
- Trauma including traumatic brain injury and orthopedic injury

Qualifications:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited registered professional nursing program
- Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements.
