About The Position
**Job Title:** Registered Nurse (RN) **Job Specialty:** Medical Surgical Float **Job Duration:** 17 weeks **Shift:** 12-hour nights **Guaranteed Hours:** 36 hours per week **Experience:** Minimum 1 year **License:** Required **Certifications:** BLS, NIHSS **Must-Have:** EPIC experience required **Job Description:** - Work in a medical-surgical unit with a 38-bed capacity, which can increase to 42 with semi-private rooms. - Maintain patient ratios of 1:4-5 for both day and night shifts. - Care for general surgery patients with diagnoses such as appendectomies, fractures, GI, gynecological, and vascular issues. - No drip titration required; manage heparin per protocol. - Collaborate with a charge nurse/house supervisor outside of staffing. - Utilize the assistance of PCA's, with a typical PCA-to-patient ratio of 1:8-15 based on staffing needs. PCA’s are trained in phlebotomy. - Operate RT equipment, including CPAP and nasal cannula. - Engage with tele monitoring facilitated by monitor techs. While RN’s do not read strips, they must recognize lethal rhythms and respond appropriately. - Scheduled shifts are from 7-7 for both AM and PM, with travelers covering scheduling gaps. - Work every other weekend; no holiday requirement. - Floating to other surgical or medical-surgical units may be necessary, with travelers being the first to float. - Scrub color/dress code is royal blue. - Attend a total of three days of orientation, including general information and specific training for General Surgery and Ortho Spine units. - Cancellation policy allows for one shift cancellation per two-week period, based on staffing needs. - Use Epic Systems Corporation EpicCare Inpatient EMR for charting.
