About The Position
**Job Title:** Registered Nurse - Medical-Surgical **Job Specialty:** Medical-Surgical **Job Duration:** 13 weeks **Shift:** 12-Hour Nights **Guaranteed Hours:** 36 hours per week **Experience:** Minimum 2 years of experience **License:** License required to submit **Certifications:** BLS required; ACLS and PALS preferred **Must-Have:** - At least 2 years of experience, preferably with travel experience. - Experience in a Level 4 or similar-sized facility. - Pediatric experience is a plus. - High skill level, adaptability, and willingness to learn. - Experience working with limited resources. **Job Description:** - **Unit Details:** - 37 beds, Nurse-to-Patient ratios: Days 1:5-6, Nights 1:6. - This is a MedSurg/Tele/Peds unit serving patients from 1 month old and up, with a recent increase in pediatric population. - **Common Diagnoses/Patients:** - Adults and geriatrics with conditions such as CHF, COPD, cellulitis, ortho, infectious disease, podiatry, GI, chest tubes, COVID, post cath, controlled A-fib, ETOH detox. - Pediatric cases including RSV and influenza; generally not high acuity. - Does not handle BiPap, neuro (ex. CVAs), or urology cases. - **Drip Management:** - May administer heparin or non-titrating drips; more complex cases go to ICU. - Common drips include titratable heparin and set rate: dobutamine, lasix, sodium bicarb. - **Support and Resources:** - Charge Nurse on each shift; House Supervisor available 24/7. - Night charge may take a small team. - Internal Resource Team and Critical Care float available to assist. - **Patient Care and Equipment:** - Nurse aids/patient care techs available. - Experience with Cpap and BiPap for OSA only. - Monitor techs present 24/7, RNs must read and interpret strips. - **Scheduling and Requirements:** - Flexible scheduling, including self-scheduling and block scheduling if feasible. - Weekend requirement every other weekend; holiday rotation with permanent staff. - No required call, opportunity for extra shifts if desired. - Floating within skill set to ICU, L&D, ER, and psych for assistance. - **Orientation and Policies:** - 2-3 days unit/department specific orientation. - Cancellation policy allows for up to two shift cancellations per 13-week assignment. - **Other Details:** - Dress Code: Any professional and clean color scrubs allowed. - Charting System: Cerner Corporation - Millennium.
